7091  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Macro Photo Challenge: Butterfly Feeding on: April 21, 2008 08:15:54 AM
Gorgeous! Smiley

Thanks! I know it pales in comparison to some of the amazing shots that have been posted, but I'm pretty proud of it. And now I want to head out with my camera and see what else I can find...

Well, if you can knit one, then you should definitely be able to do a crochet graph- it is much easier, I think, than knitting. The directions in the Happy Hooker are really good, so you should have no trouble!

And, keep the book for yourself and send a copy to your friend (because after you send it her yours, you'll be kicking yourself and end up buying yourself a new one anyway Wink ).

Those came out awesome, Dragon*Fly! I did a charted one, but I only did a small chart. After seeing yours, I'll have to try a bigger one Wink

Yup! You guys were right! And, it looks like it's a female. Here's the other shot I mentioned. This is the male:

It's also called an eastern tiger swallowtail.

Thanks! I'll have to look up swallowtails, now. I have another butterfly shot, but I thought this one was just a bit better. Of course, I don't what kind of butterfly that one is either Wink

I took it in Maryland last summer!

I absolutely <3 this!! So far, this one is my favorite out of all of the entries that I've seen so far. What an incredible find with your lens.

Here's my entry!

I'm definitely not what I would consider a photographer. But once I realized that I had a macro setting on my camera, I knew I could get some great insect shots Wink This is one of my favorites so far!

I can't wait to see the rest of the entries. The ones that I have seen so far have been amazing!

I took this picture of a butterfly (anyone know what kind?) feeding on a flower. I got right in close and it never moved!

I think my camera is partial to outside nature shots in close-up. Anything I try to photograph inside never comes out well. This is probably one of my favorite pictures!
7099  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Pop Top Tab Granny Square on: April 20, 2008 02:27:18 PM
Inspired by pesky pixie's post and the included tutorial, I made a pop top granny square of my own!

I essentially followed her tutorial, but then added another round to finish it off. It came out a little wavy, but A) it was just a practice one and B) it isn't blocked. If it stays wavy, I may use only 3 dc in each of the chains around, instead of 5.

To do my additional round, I did:
5 dc in each 5 ch sp (this is what I might need to change to 3 dc)
1 dc in the dc between each 5 ch sp

In the 5 sc crochet in the corners, I did:
1 dc in each of the first 2 sc
2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the 3rd sc
1 dc in each of the last 2 sc

Now to start collecting more pop top tabs so I can make some more Wink
7100  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Science IS Art Swap! (SIGNUPS CLOSED! Sendouts by 5/7) on: April 20, 2008 10:49:42 AM
Did you guys see the AWESOME scientific embroidery in the featured projects gallery? Very cute!

I fell in love with it when I first saw the post. I bought the patterns this morning (she has a whole line of science embroidery Smiley ). I won't be making them for this swap, since I haven't done much embroidery in my life.

I'm finishing up another swap today so I can start on this one tomorrow! Yay!
