6981  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Science IS Art Swap! (SIGNUPS ENDING TODAY! - 4/2! Sendouts by 5/7) on: April 02, 2008 04:15:33 PM
I am so looking forward to this swap! And, even though I am a science geek to the core, somehow I came up with a ton of ideas for a math person! I can't wait to see who I get for a partner...but I can be patient just a little longer Grin
6982  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ MAR on: April 02, 2008 04:13:30 PM
Wow! The new squares posted are so pretty! I love the color combos on them!

And, thanks to all who worked the kinks out of the pattern! I know I'd have had the same exact problems, so you've saved me a bunch of grief Wink

I use them for dishes. I once read about how sponges are excellent homes for bacteria to grow in, so I don't use them anymore. I can use one a day and wash them when I run out!

I know there are some folks who use them as washcloths in the shower/tub, but I haven't done that yet...

I don't know how well they would dry things...

sunspotted, those squares look great together. The red, black and white combo is so striking!

And, crafty momma, you are insane! But in a good way Wink  I love how different each square looks depending on the yarn you used. It highlights different parts of the square- cool!
6985  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Re: First Weaving Attempt & Homemade Loom on: March 31, 2008 06:49:22 PM
Thanks so much for the additional info! I'm not sure if I get the warp part, but that's because of my lack of knowledge, not your explanation. Plus, I'm very tired right now!

Did you have to glue any of the parts together, or can it be entirely disassembled? That would be ideal, because then I could put it away when I wasn't using it!

Thanks again!

Dragon*Fly- It was easy! I like crocheting in rounds much better- I have serious issues with edges and turning chains. For this one, I just made sure I marked where the 3rd chain of my starting set  of ch3 was and I was all set.

And, Zelda.Suicide, I love the Twists yarn, too! I only have a skein of blue and purple left to work with though. I already used most of my green. They look so much cooler than the variegated, I think.

Tomorrow, I'll have about 45 minutes to kill between tutoring and meeting friends for dinner, so I'll be crocheting in the car again! I don't think I have a super easy pattern, so I probably won't finish it for a while...

Thanks! It was actually pretty easy, and didn't require too much concentration. the pattern repeats are easy to remember. I like round ones because then I don't end up with icky looking edges!

I think I'm giving a bunch to my mom for Mother's Day. She's so hard to buy for, but I know she uses dishcloths!

I am officially in! And, I've been thinking of science and math themed stuff, so in case I get partnered with a math person, I'll be all set!
6989  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: My version of Annesah's Rainbowy Zipper Pencil Case on: March 30, 2008 06:10:10 PM
I love this! I have a thing for zippers, so I might have to make myself one of these. I love the contrast between the black and the colors. I'll have to wait until I can get a good deal on the zippers, though. Looks like a road trip to my favorite fabric warehouse might be in order soon!

I finished another one! 9/50 now. This is the Fire Blossom in Sn'C Country Sage Ombre (the pattern called for red, but I didn't have any). It ripples quite a bit, so I may use a smaller hook (highly unusual for me) the next time I make one. The pic is a bit blurry, but it shows the color pretty well.
