6981  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Friends of Craftster Raffle Swap FOCR Gallery on: June 29, 2008 07:27:01 AM
Yay! It's so exciting to see what everyone is getting! And, I have a list, too Wink  So far, the item I really, really would love is still out there! But, there are so many awesome items, I'm sure I won't be disappointed!

And, there was one item I had no idea what to do with, but then I thought that it could make a good gift for my sister... and her birthday is this week!
6982  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ JUNE on: June 29, 2008 07:14:20 AM
I still haven't gotten back to my June square. I hit a roadblock and haven't had a chance to figure it out when A) I have time and B) I'm not too tired to think!

But, I just realized last night that June is almost over, so I really need to tackle it at some point today!
6983  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Re: tissue paper envelopes *Tutorial added* on: June 29, 2008 07:12:55 AM
I have a question that might seem kinda dumb...
I am going to make these because I make gocco cards and would love some envelopes to go with them, but I can't quite figure out how to seal them. If I were mailing them, I would just use a glue stick or something, but if I want to make someone a set of cards so they can use them, how do I manage that? Are there such things as strips of envelope adhesive or a way to do the old lick'n'stick method?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could make your own envelope glue- there are recipes (even on here, I think!) using Jell-o powder and water, mostly. Then you just paint it on and let it dry. You could Google an exact recipe.

Or, you could use envelope seals!

My package is all set to mail out tomorrow! I stuck in a couple of postcards and a magnet (made it to the visitors center right before it closed).

As for trying to keep the mystery a little longer in the next round, maybe it could be a rule that, for the duration of the swap (once you've signed up until you've received), you have to remove location info from your profile. I realized after we were assigned partners that my city and state are listed. But, I didn't think of it until people said they had stalked to find out their partners Wink

So, I'm hoping that my package will arrive by Thursday!

Yay!

You guys are making me feel bad, I didn't put in an extra.  I bought some postcards but it wouldn't fit in the envelope I sent in.  Cry

Mail the postcards as a separate surprise!

I'll be sending on Saturday, I think. I'm hoping to pick up a "souvenir" on my way home tomorrow. Hopefully, the place will still be open when I get there. Otherwise, I'll have to see what the little shop in the center of town has...

Yay! I got my address and I checked one thing...but it wasn't who I'm sending to. So, I'm not going to try to check any further (I just don't have the time right now!).

I hope my partner likes what she's getting!

I loved the Bartimaeus trilogy! And Artemis Fowl, too! I, too, am surprised at how dark some YA lit is. I recently finished The Deptford Mice Trilogy (The Dark Portal is the first one) by Robin Jarvis, and there were some pretty dark parts to it! And, I just found out that he wrote The Deptford Histories, too. Looks like the back stories to some of the characters. Might have to get those...

Gah! Me too! Just got home from dinner in Boston, and no addressee!

Hmmm...if I get to send to you, I could actually hand-deliver it faster than the PO would Wink

Okay, here's my toss into the ring for YA: Sharon Creech. I love her stories so much (I cry every time I read Love That Dog). She reminds me of Barbara Kingsolver- I just love her characters.

And, Jon Scieszka...oh wait...his books are at the 4th grade reading level...but his Time Warp Trio series is so funny. And Dav Pilkey! Just juvenile...Captain Underpants, anyone? But, since I love mysteries, Wendelin Van Draanen- she writes the Sammy Keyes series, but also Shredderman and a bunch of other books (I really liked Flipped).

Loved the Dark is Rising series. I had all 5 of them and then I brought them into my classroom and at least one vanished.

And, if you ever come across any of Daniel Handler's non-Lemony Sicket books, they are worth a read, too!
