6801  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Handmade Rubber Stamps Gallery on: January 11, 2008 07:12:17 PM
Wow, MunLtStmpr! Those stamps are amazing! And I am now even more firmly cemented in the beginner category, so I hope my partners are not disappointed!

I, unfortunately, won't be getting to carving until Sunday. I offered to help my brother and his wife move this weekend. Fortunately, they aren't moving until next weekend, but they do need help packing. So, I'm driving out tomorrow after a class to help them out. I'll be back Sunday afternoon...and then I can carve! I don't know if any angels will be set free...I'll be happy with a cherub Wink
6802  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Show off your cake decorating skills! on: January 11, 2008 07:07:15 PM
Wow! Thanks everyone! Kiss

What is ready-roll icing?

It is pre-packaged fondant icing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fondant). Far easier then all that hub-bub messing around with boiling sugar! It's the consistancy of smooth dough, and you just colour it with food-colouring.

Thanks! I'll have to look for it at the store. Is it in the refrigerated section or the baking aisle?

Baking Wink

Thanks! I'll look for it soon and give it a try. Although I rarely bake, I do love cake, so this will give me a good reason to make one...
6803  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: The Long Awaited Poppet-Along on: January 11, 2008 07:05:43 PM
And, I started working on the Poppet web page...I'll definitely need some input from you guys when it's done! It's going pretty quickly, and I wanted to continue into the wee hours, but I have a class from 8-1 tomorrow...and then a 1.5+ hour drive to my brother's to help them pack for moving...so I should have been in bed a half an hour ago...except I was so caught up in the Poppet page that I never ate dinner, so I had to make some oatmeal Wink

But, now I have to go to bed!
6804  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Reading Rainbow Swap round?? on: January 11, 2008 07:02:02 PM
Hey PandaShrew! Just checkin' in to see how you and yours are doing... I was thinking about all of your mementos from your kitty...can you get one of those collage frames and put them in there with your favorite pics? That way you'd have a nice reminder of how great your kitty was...

And, on another note, I was able to bribe my mother into helping me quite easily! I have something she needs for a trip, and I offered to drive it down to her in exchange...plus we get to go out to my friend's Chinese food restaurant...a perfect plan!

And...I was doing the happy dance in the main office at school yesterday. We had a bunch of books donated to our library and our secretary had picked out a few for her elderly mother, who needs something uncomplicated and quick. I passed by her desk and the cover of one caught my eye. One of my favorite books from elementary school- Children in Hiding by Charlene Joy Talbot. I managed to snag a copy in a book give-away in elementary school (I remember practically snatching it out from the hands of another kid), but don't know what happened to it. So, the secretary promised she'd give it to me when her mom was done with it! Silly, I know, but it made my day!

Has anyone else ever run across a book from childhood that brought back super happy memories?

Dragon or witch comes to mind... or a mermaid.. those are so cute~ Or a sister or brother would work!
Linda

Medusa...you could attach a bunch of little plastic snakes to her head and give her a serpent-y body...I'm thinking Clash of the Titans Medusa here...rattlesnake tail...you know what I'm talkin' about! Wink

And, ghille, I hope you don't mind! I just think it will be so cool to see all of the Poppets all together!

Of course I don't mind, you big silly.

And, I think I might start playing around with this tonight...if I can get a first draft up tonight, I'll post a link...
6807  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: "Orange Paint Stripper" photo transfers on: January 11, 2008 03:16:39 PM
Thanks! I'll have to look for this the next time I'm in the hardware store. And, I can always use any extra to strip some of the hideous orange paint off of the woodwork in my kitchen Wink

Aren't we the busy bunch!!  And they all look so good, I am continually amazed.

You sure hit the nail on the head! I decided, even though nobody said it was a good idea (but then nobody said it was a bad idea, either Wink ), to start compiling images of all of the completed Poppets and post them all in one place (of course, I'll remove any images that folks don't want me to post)- I have some new web page software that I need to learn how to use, so I thought that it'd be fun to play around using the Poppet pics.

So far, I have 74 Poppet pictures! And, those are only the ones from this thread that show up when I click "Show Images Only." I didn't re-read through all 150+ pages, so I know I don't have the ones where folks only posted a link to their pics. And, I don't have pics of any Poppets that were made before this thread started. I just started grabbing the pics last night...I saved them labeled with the date posted, Poppet name (just Poppet if no name was shown), and creator.

And, as I looked at all of the pics, the Poppet evolution (and revolution) is very fascinating! It's a very cool Poppet timeline! Hopefully I can start working on the page in the next week or so.

And, ghille, I hope you don't mind! I just think it will be so cool to see all of the Poppets all together!
6809  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: First Socks on: January 10, 2008 03:52:19 PM
It was to up pattern that I found on the net.  I used Wool-Ease and it took about 3 days to finish.

Thanks for the added info!
6810  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: First Socks on: January 10, 2008 03:29:08 PM
They came out very nice! I tried to learn to knit by knitting socks...dismal failure! I do have a crochet socks book and I'm working up the courage to try a pair. Once you got started, how long did they take you?
