Hi everyone!! OMG I hadn't been on here in FOREVER!! Spent an hour looking at all the gorgeous starghans I've missed! This thread is such a favorite! 

I just wanted to share my funny starghan story ... so I made one for my son while I was pregnant, and then my mom made like 73 (non-star) blankies for him, too, so when he was born I just didn't even think he would like the starghan, but one night all the other blankies were in the laundry so I grabbed the starghan and somehow it became a routine to give him THAT blanket to sleep.

Anywho, last week at daycare they told me he was just NOT sleeping, he was fighting naps, they were having a rough time. I couldn't believe it since he's such a good sleeper at home. Well I sent him to daycare with the starghan the next day and ... LO AND BEHOLD! He slept like an angel.

So I had to run out and find TLC Amore (couldn't find the green) and I made him an extra starghan IN ONE WEEKEND!! OMG needless to say I actually had shoulder cramps from the speed hooking!! I managed to finish it during The Oscars ... yes, I spent 3 hours straight watching the TV and crocheting like a crazy woman.

Now he has his "home starghan" and his "daycare starghan" and all is well with the world. Who'da thunk it would have such power?? Haha!

To all you gals struggling with the first rows, DON'T GIVE UP, use the picture tutorial, and hang in there ... once you get it, once you make one, the next one will be SO easy, you'll be making a whole bunch of them. This last one was my 4th and I didn't even need the pattern anymore, it was that easy!

You can do it!! 

P.S. - I don't have a picture of the daycare one since it was such short notice, sorry! 

Excellent advice! I guess I was a little off on the yarn usage ... I knew there was a "3" involved!

If *I* could choose any yarn it would be Malabrigo, hands down ... I never knew what "it's like knitting with butter" could possibly mean until I used Malabrigo for the first time ... ZOMG it's like a yarngasm!

Yeah, I think lining it is going to be the best solution ... that way, if needed, I can use an "airier" stitch to conserve yarn ... blah!

I dunno about you, but I am definitely knitting up a flame hat for my baby ... that thing rocks!

Dewd I am TEWTELLY knitting this for my baby!! Talk about Synchronicity, I was just thinking today that a flame hat would be a cool idea ... rock!

I'm having a baby boy in June and I know how hard it is to find patterns! I've made a blanket, some amigurumi, a skully version of the baby hat, and am always looking for the next cute thing that my husband won't nix for being too girly

Hello fellow Craftsters!

I didn't know if I should post this topic on the Crochet board or the Knitting board, but I had to choose one so here I am.

I recently bought $50 worth of yarn to make myself a laptop bag based on this pattern

and $50 is a LOT of money for me. I started crocheting it because I figured it would be sturdier with crochet stitches (can't felt it since it's all acrylic), but I'm halfway through my yarn and NOT close to the halfway mark of the bag. I refue on principle to go out and buy another $50 of yarn, so I can have a $100 laptop bag. $100 for a laptop bag? I might as well use the yarn for something else and just BUY a laptop bag. 

I've heard that crocheting uses up 3x more yarn than knitting, so I'm seriously considering frogging and knitting it instead ... does anyone have any experience in the difference of yarn usage between crocheting and knitting that can help me figure out if the effort will be worth it or not?
