I've just started felting again after a long break and these are my latest mini items.  A robin, bluebird, raven (or crow) and teeny tiny mouse.  I love mini stuff    The birds are about an inch long and the mouse is 3/8" tall, all from merino.

Hopefully nobody finds this too offensive...

A buddy of mine stationed in Iraq just found out his tour of duty has been extended another 6 months so he's obviously a "wee bit" down right now.  When asked if he needed anything added to a general care package we were sending he requested a sheep.  Well.  I mean come on...I couldn't help myself 



He's about 3" long, needle-felted merino over wire armature.  That's the 82nd Airborne emblem tattooed on his butt BTW, my buddy's unit.

This guy is 1"...yes, I'm on a mini kick.  They're challenging in a very satisfyingly mini way.   

He's tiny...only 1-1/4" long.  Needle-felted merino, done while (oh so patiently) waiting for me cat's medicine time to come up at 2 AM.  At least it's nice to be productive in the middle of the night.

I spent about a week on this, blending the colors, laying 'em out, needling in the hopes of keeping the colors defined and then wet felting.  Some day I'm going to attempt prefelts, but they scare me for some reason    It was almost painful putting the water on the carefully needled piles of wool I'd spent 3 days getting just right...it looked pretty spiffy, all poofy and 3d, but it really wasn't solid enough to hang.  The sculpted bit up top is needlefelted over wire and then wet felted to blend.  I really had no idea how this was going to turn out at any given point, but I'm totally digging the results.  Yay!  I so freakin love felting

For anyone who's interested in inspiration and that sort of thing, this hanging was brought on by the Nickel Creek lyrics "we lean another ladder against the wrong wall and climb high to the highest rung to shake fists at the sky".  This guy is so focused on being angry that he doesn't notice what he's accomplished in climbing so high, he doesn't even notice that he's set himself on fire in passing by the sun...he's only interested in reaching the top to shout out his futile indignation.   Okay, so it's not a happy theme, but the colors are pretty, huh?   

Alright, this is the last of what I've been felting...my dad's opening a shop selling butterfly-related crafts and asked me for some felty things.  Unfortunately, I'm not too keen on butterflies myself, so these weren't nearly as fun to make. 

This is (supposed to be) a mask...I haven't put the ties on it yet...because I'm lazy and bad at finishing things    It was wet-felted and then soaked in liquid starch to stiffen'er up.

And finally, a monarch butterfly.  I needle felted this one and theoretically it's finished, but the backside is kinda blah looking and I haven't figured out what to do with it.  It is definitely the only one of its kind *I* will ever make.  I think it turned out all right, but it was way too much like work (ick )

I wanted to share some of what I've been working on.  These are are all needle felted merino and I've got the wounds to prove it!

A very purple horse for my 5-yo (gee, can you guess her favorite colors?)  I'm not happy with the poor guy's legs, but I've got too short of an attention span to fix em  :

A vaguely hummingbird-shaped bird...I now know the meaning of the word "painstaking".  The wings and tail feathers are individually sculpted...OUCH.  Worth it though, since it made my hubby say "Hey, how'd you get it to look like that??"  My cat there in the pic was very interested in this one (he got a taste for wool when he ran off with the bear's head).


And finally a Santa head and a doll's head...I've discovered that I REALLY don't like doing bodies, so if anyone has a body in need of a head, lemme know 

Tada...my first ever attempt at needle felting...addicitiv e, eh?  Thanks to all for the buckets of good advice on this forum.  Put a bunch of hours into her, but it looks like it's just going to be one of those hair days.



On top of the joy of wielding sharp needles just for the fun it, there's the added bonus of terrorizing one's husband...who knew a grown man would be creeped out by a hairless, disembodied head waiting on the mantel?  Double thanks!
