1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Finally finished "my so called scarf", what a fun knit! on: October 05, 2007 11:36:07 AM
I did this for my Grandmom for Christmas, I am really happy with how it came out.  I used only 1 1/2 balls since my Grandmother is very petite and it still is long.

My So Called Scarf
http://www.sheepinthecity.prettyposies.com/archives/000079.html
1 1/2 hanks of Manos del Uruguay in a long discontinued color
Size 11 needle
Followed pattern as is.
Took 2 weeks, but that is only because I have too much other stuff going on.

Thanks for looking!   Grin
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Spooky & Autumn handspun yarn!!!!!! on: October 01, 2007 03:02:20 PM
I just got done with 2 new art yarns in time for Autumn and Halloween and wanted to share.  I am so happy with how they came out!

Both are made with fiber and add-ins from 7122390Traveling Rhinos's batt clubhttp://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=  Contains BFL, romney and domestic wools with angelina.

Spooky---98 yards plied with copper thread and ribbon and skull beads

Autumn Splendor---64 yards with ribbons, fabric and plastic flowers

I am finally getting this whole "art yarns" thing.  Smiley

I even have 2 more ounces of dyed Corriedale that go along with these ones too.  Going to try for laceweight/fingering with that on my new wheel.  Smiley

Thanks for looking!
3  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Can I pout please! My new wheel! on: October 01, 2007 02:53:02 PM
I have no luck with wheels that I order online at all.  When I ordered my Lendrum, the plying flyer broke.  Today my brand new Majacraft Rose was delivered and right out of the box I saw the issue immediately, no assembly or anything done.

Look at my poor new wheel.  SadSadSad

The Woolery is going to contact Majacraft and have a new wheel portion only shipped directly to me from New Zealand, but it will take a while.  Thankfully I am able to assemble it and use it, except for that outside ratio.

It is a gorgeous wheel and I know I will love it, once she is all fixed up and ready to go.  It treadles like the wind and is so quiet and easy on my legs!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Just a simple garter knit scarf, BUT.... on: September 28, 2007 10:02:28 AM
It is made out of my own handspun yarn.  This is my first knitted FO from my handspun and I cannot wait until the weather gets cool enough to wear it.  LOL!

Sea Treasure scarf---made from 100 yards of alpaca, merino, silk & glitz blend with recycled sari silk .  Roving was from Loop on Etsy, spun by me on my Lendrum ST. It is a short scarf, but here in FL I don't have much need for one for warmth, just an accent, so it will work great.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think.
5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Whimsy Handspun yarn! on: August 27, 2007 03:29:28 PM
I took these amazing battlets from Hobbledehoy on Etsy:

and turned them into this:

Whimsy, 140 yards, 2-ply, sport weight to bulky weight, 4oz.  Contains: Falklands, Merino, Recycled Denim, Mohair & Nylon.

Let me know what you think.  Smiley  Thanks for looking!
6  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Having a hard time with superwash roving (from Sheep Shed). on: August 13, 2007 04:00:13 PM
I know that you need to keep it bound so it doesn't drift apart, so I do when soaking and then I use the hot pour method and then drained and spun the excess out.  Then it just falls apart into a strangly mess.  It is fuzzy and stringy.  It spins okay, but it just looks messy and not like other superwash that I have purchased dyed.

Is this just the particular roving (I got it from the Sheep Shed), or am I doing something wrong?  Any hints/tips?

Thanks!
7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / New yarn and batty for BATTS! on: August 06, 2007 11:52:10 AM
Hey all, I am so excited, my brand new drumcarder just got here a few hours ago and of course I had to try it out right away!

Here are my first few....

Taste the Rainbow---2.1 oz, hand-dyed mill ends

Pink Sunday---1 oz, BFL locks, dyed by HollyEQQ

I also have one new yarn to share.....Sunkissed---245 yards, superwash merino dyed by Funky Carolina, thick & thin plyed with holographic thread.

Thanks for taking a peek and let me know what you think.

Off to card anything else I can find.  LOL!
8  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Yipee! I have a drum carder coming!!!!!!! on: August 01, 2007 02:52:01 PM
I just ordered a brand spanking new Louet Junior Roving Carder and it is on its way!!!  It was too good of a deal to pass up.  I cannot wait to use it.  I love spinning from batts and now I can make my own.  I cannot wait!  I would've loved to have a Pat Greene, but I just can't afford that now.  So I figure I can have this for now and always sell it later and get a bigger one if needed.

I am so excited.  I have never used one though, hopefully it is pretty easy.  Smiley

10  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / New dyed fiber!!! on: April 07, 2007 07:23:36 AM
I went on a dyeing binge yesterday, since I got 12 lbs of wool in the mail and 2 lbs of fiber the day before.

Here is what I came up with!

Peeps, 4 oz of Austrailian merino handdyed

Spring Fling, 4 oz of Romney wool handdyed

Ocean Depths, 4 oz of Falkland wool, handdyed

Spring Fling Revisited, 4 oz of merino/tencel blend

All together in their fibery goodness!

I also tried my hand at dyeing silk hankies for the first time.

I can't wait to spin all of these, they are so fun.  Thanks for looking!
