31  Woohoo, new plied yarn that I love (Spunky FOTM from March, spoiler) in Spinning: Completed Projects by mandalinn on: March 28, 2007 06:36:41 PM
I got this roving today, it is called Dandy Lion and it is this month's selection from Spunky Eclectic's Fiber of the Month Club.  It is my first month and I am in love!

It is 4oz and 130 yards of superwash merino, plied together.  I love this colorway and will be making something from this soon.  What, I have no clue......suggestions welcome.

Thanks for looking!!!

Here are my contributions this week!

Sandbox----50% merino, 50% silk, 155 yards, 2oz

American Beauty---merino, handdyed, 52 yards, 2oz, chunky weight

Never, Never Land---150 yards of a chunky weight merino with yellow & green firestar, 4 oz

Lilac Bush---2/3 merino, 1/3 corriedale, thick & thin, 140 yards, 4oz---this one is a bit overspun, hopefully I can use it alright. Sad

Goodness, everyone's stuff this week is simply beautiful.  I love the bright colors and the muted sping tones too.  I hope I can get as good as you all someday.  Smiley

33  First roving dyed with acid dyes! in Dyeing: Completed Projects by mandalinn on: March 18, 2007 02:17:48 PM
I finally got to dye up some rovings using my acid dye kit from www.helloyarn.com and I think they turned out pretty good.  I cannot wait to spin them up!

This one is 2oz of merino, called American Beauty

This one is 2oz of South African Fine, called Chaos Theory

And this one is 4oz of mill ends from TSS, called Grapevine

I have used Wilton dyes and the colors were okay, but these dyes just work so much better and seem to affect the roving better as well.  I can't wait to order more colors and dye a bunch more up!!!  Thanks for looking!

Here are my two from this week

This one is Chasing Rainbows, it is 85 yards of merino, spun thick & thin. I have 2 more ounces, so I will probably spin the rest up to match.

And this one is Sea Dreams, 130 yards of merino, semi thick & thin. I have 1 more ounce that I am going to spin super thin and ply with another yarn.

Everyone's contributions are awesome as usual!!!

Everything is gorgeous as usual!  I love that brown roving, I have some bits like that I might have to sample out and then order more.  Smiley

Here are mine for this week...at least the ones off the bobbin, I have been a spinning fool.

This is 90 yards of sportweight, Peony.....the roving is from Spunky Eclectic and I think it is a wool blend.

This is Rainbow Sherbet-70 yards, roving is from Paradise Fibers, a 95% superwash wool & 5% nylon blend, plyed with silver thread.

And my favorite!  Tuscan Sunrise, 120 yards, thick & thin, hand dyed & hand spun merino.  I think my first dyed came out great and I am going to knit something with it soon.

Can't wait to see the rest of the yarns.  You are all awesome.  I hope I can spin thin yarns like you all do soon.  LOL!

Gorgeous yarn, looks awesome!!!

Here is my first real contribution to Fiber Friday!!!!  Here are my first two plied skeins on my new wheel!

This one is half corriedale (the green is Hosta from Spunky Eclectic) and half merino (mill ends from the Sheep Shed).

This one is the same, just a different color corriedale (Pine from SE).

They are super squishy and soft.  Only about 30 yards each, but I am in love!  Smiley

37  Re: First mini skeinssss (adding new ones as day goes on) from new wheel! in Spinning: Completed Projects by mandalinn on: February 22, 2007 02:12:37 PM
Thanks hon, yes they are addictive.  While watching my spinning video I did this single too, Hosta colorway in Corriedale from SE too.  Get a little more even and not as overspun, still some pretty thin spots tho.   Undecided  I think I am going to try to ply this one with some thread, we shall see.

This will be my last post for today, gotta save up for Fiber Friday.  Wink

38  First mini skeins from new wheel! in Spinning: Completed Projects by mandalinn on: February 22, 2007 12:59:06 PM
I just got my wheel a few hours ago and I am slowly getting the hang of it.  Here is my first overtwisted, not even, unset single.  It is a gorgeous color (Marigold Wool Blend from Spunky Eclectic) and I love it.  LOL!  Let me know what you think.  Thanks for all the help and support already, you all are a font of information!

I hope it is okay that I post these here a bit late and that they aren't spun.

This is my first dyed roving, Easter Memories, it is Mill Ends from The Sheep Shed using Wilton Icing Dyes.

And this isn't one I spun, but it is my first dyed yarn, it is the chunky weight from Knit Picks, dyed with Wilton Icing Dyes.  I call it Watermelon Twist.

I have a few more rovings drying now, I cannot wait, my spinning wheel will be here Wednesday and then I can add spun yarn here.

40  My first two skeins! in Spinning: Completed Projects by mandalinn on: February 13, 2007 02:41:47 PM
Please take a peek, they are a little sad and tiny, but I am getting the hang of it.  Smiley

This one is with some unknown wool roving that came with my spindle kit

This one is with roving from Smokeymountainfibers on Etsy, Blue Violet colorway http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=65227

Let me know what you think........not that good, but not too bad for a newbie, right??  Wink

I am off to spin some more from SMF, in a gorgeous merlot colorway.  Smiley  And I have 5 lbs of roving coming from The Sheep Shed and a sampler from Spunky Eclectic and hopefully buying a wheel soon too.  I love spinning and was instantly hooked.
