34  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Issues substituting Kidsilk Haze with Sublime Kid Mohair? on: February 25, 2009 12:19:51 PM
Knit a gauge swatch. Dull I know, but it'll give you an idea of what you need. Pick a pattern you like and it'll tell you the gauge. e.g. 30 stitches over 24 rows = 4 inches on size 4 needles in St st or whatever.

If the gauge comes out bigger, use needles a size smaller, if it comes out smaller, use needles of a larger size.

The yarns are similar enough that you should be fine. Just bear in mind that you need to know the length of yarn for your project as Sublime Kid Mohair has less yardage than Kidsilk Haze.

Oh, and where did you get you the Kid Mohair? It sounds like a bargain. I love Cracksilk Haze too but it is sooo expensive!

Hope that helps  Smiley

40  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Easy Steampunk costume ideas? on: February 10, 2009 12:43:55 PM
Hi,

Myself and a friend are debating wearing steampunk costumes for a games convention in June. As I can't sew and my friend, who can, is at least 100 miles away, does anybody have any very easy costume ideas? Ideas of stuff I could buy or easily adapt? Or what to look out for in charity shops?

I currently have the following:
A lacy ruff that can safety pin onto a white shirt (that I made a copule of years ago for a Captain Hook costume for my husband)
Some lovely lacy cuffs I have just recieved in a swap
A cracking pair of steampunk goggles (also a swap item!)

I was thinking a lacy shirt and waistcoat, my goggles and something on my bottom half, but not sure what!

Any ideas greatfully recieved  Cheesy
