1  Re: Matryoshka Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by HelenM on: November 22, 2009 10:42:47 AM
Here's the items I sent Mokba43. She's had trouble tracking down her camera cable.

I sent her an embroidered picture, some jewelery (earrings and bracelet), a neckwarmer with a cabled Matryoshka doll, and two Matryoshka doll outline brooches.

Sadly the postal strike means my package from Mokba43 hasn't arrived yet.

2  Invitation: Embroidered! in Needlework: Completed Projects by HelenM on: April 24, 2009 01:09:59 PM
My youngest sister designed the invite for my middle sister's wedding. I wanted to give my sister and her husband something a bit more interesting than the wedding list bowls so, despite the slightly complex rose design, I thought I'd have a go at embroidering the design.

And here is the original invitation:

I left it outline as I am an impatient procrastinator (aka I started it three days before the wedding Roll Eyes ). However, I am pretty pleased with how it turned out and my sister wants to hang it on the wall so I think she likes it too  Cheesy

3  Re: Givers and Needers Swap R 5 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by HelenM on: April 23, 2009 11:06:28 AM
Here are my awesome thank you gifts!
Littlebluegirl sent me this gorgeous scarf. I love the colour-way.

And sg1psychopath sent me a bag and a notebook. The bag will become my emergency shopping bag I think, and it has useful over the shoulder straps. Also shown is the card she made me with her note in.

Thanks ladies  Cheesy

The knit bag - perfect for shopping.

My awesome hand-crafted journal. I love journals soooo much.

And finally stitch marker-earrings. I love these so much, especially the hands of blue  Cheesy

And doubleplusgood even recycled a box to pack everything in:

Thank you for an awesome swap doubleplusgood and Pysche!

I got my parcel today.

"What could this be?" asks Yorath

"Ooh, Victorian style cuffs"

"And hurrah! They fit perfectly!"

6  Knit Bracelets - quick present in Knitting: Completed Projects by HelenM on: December 21, 2008 01:29:05 PM
My sister asked for bracelets this Christmas. Ever the obliging sister, I made her these, inspired by this post here and using the instructions from Mimsie's blog.

They were really quick and a great way to practice different techniques. The pink one is moss stitch and the brown one a ladder stitch.

Comments appreciated  Grin

7  Debbie Bliss Baby Hat in Knitting: Completed Projects by HelenM on: December 20, 2008 04:17:18 PM
I made a hat for my practically-a-cousin's new baby girl. The pattern is from the Debbie Bliss book 'Baby Knits for Beginners' and I made it from Sirdar Snuggly DK left over from making Elijah the Elephant for a friend's baby.

Sadly I wasn't able to get a photo of it in use but I am assured it fits! Good job cos I have *no* idea how big a hat should be for a baby!

8  Christmas baking! in Dessert by HelenM on: December 20, 2008 04:11:33 PM
I have my parents over for Christmas for the first time this year and I want to make sure we have some lovely desserts for Christmas Eve and Christmas day tea. I used two recipies from the Green & Black's Cookbook. If you're not aware, Green & Black make amazing oganic chocolate (see here for more info if you're interested)

First up, the Chocolate Mousse Cake. Suitable for those with gluten issues, it's made of chocolate (a whopping 300g), sugar, eggs and ground almonds.

I then made the Lemon Drizzle Cake with Sunken Chocolate Chunks

I finished up with an old favourite, Anzac biscuits. My gran, who sadly passed away this year, always made them. I recomend them with a cup of coffee. Here's a sample:

Happy Christmas/Holiday of your choice  Cheesy

9  WoW! Cold hands no more! in Knitting: Completed Projects by HelenM on: November 02, 2008 11:27:47 AM
Here are some fingerless mitts I made for one of World of Warcraft addicted friends. His hands get cold when he plays after the heating has gone off!

Modelled by my husband:

Close-up:

They were made with King Cole Magnum Lightweight Chunky, following the Short and Long Fleur-de-Lys Gloves pattern in the book Love to Knit. I left off the ribbon and patterns to make them more manly!

Thanks for looking, any comments appreciated  Smiley

10  American McGee's Alice in Needlework: Completed Projects by HelenM on: October 15, 2008 09:54:01 AM
I embroidered this t-shirt for my partner for the altered fairy tale swap. I'm quite proud of it, especially as I've not been embroidering long.

Thanks for looking!
