1  COOKING / Dessert / Monster Cupcakes on: January 29, 2011 10:44:57 PM
i made these for a halloween party, but planning on making them again for the hubs for valentine's day.

just used a boxed cake mix (i know, i know...) and icing dyed green.  plus googley eyes from the craft aisle, sour gummy worms, candy corns, and plastic vampire teeth that i cut in half bc i couldn't fit the whole set without the cupcake falling apart.  i wish i had a better picture!

if anyone has any ideas on how to adapt these to look more valentine-y, i would appreciate it!  especially since candy corns are in low supply in february.  =)

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / got fun, original, badass xstitch patterns? share! on: October 21, 2005 10:25:30 AM
my sister and i both have boring desk jobs, so we've taken up cross-stitching.  the only problem is, most of the patterns we find are some variation of a "home sweet home" sign - and the others cost money.  now, we may have jobs, but we're also broke college kids.

so i've decided to make a website of only free, original, funky designs.  i've made some patterns of my own, but i'm new at this so i don't have very many yet.

do any of yall have designs you'd like to share via my website?  they can be nearly anything - band logos, celebrities, abstract...  as long as they don't include the words "home sweet home."  (well, unless you can work that into something fresh, lol)  anyone who contributes will be fully credited for their work, and not just on the links page.  your name, email address, website, whatever you want will be listed with the pattern.

if you have something you'd like to contribute (ideas, patterns, etc.), you can post it here or email me at imrad_yourerad@hotmail.com.  thanks!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / how to decorate a glass jug on: October 07, 2005 08:05:46 AM
like all broke college kids out there, i'm trying to save some of my money.  i've decided to save half of every pay check.  i don't trust banks, so i've decided to stash it in this big glass jug i have.  the problem is, it's an ugly jug.  plain glass with some purified water logo painted on it.  i can scratch off the logo without damaging the glass, but then what?  (one friend already suggested that i write "stripper tips" on it in permanent marker, lol)

does mod podge adhere well to slick glass?  what sort of paint will stay on without peeling down the line?  any suggestions for decorating this stupid thing would be greatly appreciated.
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / craft foam picture frame on: April 26, 2005 09:48:25 PM
i was awarded a, um, homely-looking picture frame at a baby shower a few weeks ago.  the poor thing was covered with wrinkled yellow paper and a wilted yellow ribbon.  so i gutted it down to the cardboard and covered it with craft foam.  yay!

i was going to cut off the extra black overhang, but i kinda like it.

(sorry for the poor picture quality.  i kept having to back up thanks to my too-bright flash, so they ended up super grainy.)   Angry

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / my happy new mousepad on: April 25, 2005 04:16:23 PM
this is ridiculously simple, which is why i love it so much.  i tossed my ugly, straight-from-the-factory dell mousepad into the garbage and cut out a new one from a pretty placemat.  (thank you, dollar general!)

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / collaged Beatles photo drawers on: February 14, 2005 03:19:02 PM
for christmas, i made a beatles-obsessed friend of mine "beatles in a box" - including beatles marble magnets, a photoshopped picture of her with the beatles, and a very large beatles coffee table book.  but, since she seems to have EVERYTHING that was ever made about the beatles, she already had the book.  i tried returning it to get her something new (i wanted to stencil lyrics to 'penny lane' on some panties for her), but the evil store would not take it back.

but i did find a really cool photo storage, um, thing.  it was a small, bright green set of drawers with photo pages inside it.  so, since i was stuck with a huge photo book of the beatles, it was collage time.  here's what i ended up with:

7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / lightweight gift for friend in london on: January 15, 2005 03:23:02 PM
one of my best friends just moved to london to go to school there for four months.  i really want to send her something more than a letter, but the postage is outrageous (about $9 for a letter weighing one pound, i didn't even bother looking at the packages lol).  and since i'm a broke-as-a-joke college kid, i can't be spending an obscene amount ($10 is obscene lol) just to get the gift/letter over to her.

any ideas for small/lightweight gifts i could send her?  they could (but don't have to be) london or hometown related.
8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / digicam cozy? on: January 02, 2005 12:17:16 AM
i just bought a new digital camera (my christmas present to myself, lol), but the carrying case it came with is horrific.  i really want to make a cozy, but i don't knit at all and have very limited sewing abilities.  i was thinking about making one out of craft foam somehow, but i'm not sure how to go about it.  any tips or suggestions about what to make one out of or even how to spruce up the case i already have?

here's what i'm working with:

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / creative shower themes on: December 27, 2004 10:34:37 AM
my sister just had a baby, and i'm planning two showers for her (one for her crazy friends, and one for our conservative aunts).  the aunts shower will be very traditional (corny, very), but we want something fun and different for the friends shower.

we're considering a 'think pink' theme (where everyone has to wear pink and bring something pink to share, ie bubblegum or cupcakes), but it's been done before.  and we don't know the nursery theme yet, so that's out.  and since none of her friends are married and only a couple are dating, we can't do a couples shower.  any suggestions?
10  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Ability to resort board by thread start dates on: December 08, 2004 03:29:09 PM
this isn't really a suggestion for a new board, but i really don't know exactly where to put this so here it is lol.

i think it would be a good idea to sort posts by the start date.  that way, when you log on you could see the posts that were made while you were gone in a particular board (instead of just the ones that were posted in last).  could be pretty useful, especially if you don't have time to sift through the boards.

just a suggestion!   Cheesy
