1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Newbie - Need Help With Machine Bobbin Thread on: September 07, 2012 04:11:22 PM
Hi, everyone. I have a Janome sewing machine. I was recently sewing denim that was too thick for the machine but I was forcing it. I really wanted to make a purse with denim. Well, now the machine doesn't sew correctly. The bobbin thread doesn't do anything. I've tried adjusting the tension to every setting. It doesn't make a difference. The bobbin thread is easily pulled out and my machine is now useless. Can someone help me to fix it? I can't afford to take it to a shop to get it fixed by a professional.

3  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: The Big Thread About Nail Painting on: November 12, 2006 08:05:37 PM
Someone on this board (I forgot who - so sorry) motivated me to learn how to do my own acrylic nails instead of going to those expensive salons. I bought a kit at the drug store and practiced. By trial and error I'm getting better at it so I wanted to post some pics of the results.

Two pics are acrylic on my own nails and 1 pic is with tips and acrylic.

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: I want to crochet this hat... on: September 25, 2006 09:52:48 AM
funkyflower,

thanks alot. I will try that. Although the stitches look complicated.

I like the crochet newsboy hat better than knitted because you don't need all the needles.

The crochet hat in the above picture has stitches that look very simple, that's why I wanted to make it. If I had kept up with my crocheting I would be able to make this hat without a pattern by now.
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / I want to crochet this hat... on: September 24, 2006 06:16:26 PM

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern to crochet this hat or any hats like it? Such a cute hat. Thanks.
7  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Burning the ends of synthetic braids on: September 18, 2006 04:48:23 PM
I recently took a class on African hair braiding. It was in a library so the instructor couldn't show us how to burn the ends.

I've put braids in my own hair but I don't know how to burn the ends the way they do in a salon. I just wrap rubberbands around the ends.

When I tried to burn the ends of the braids, it just looked burnt and terrible and didn't hold together. I still had to put rubberbands on the ends.

I have never seen anyone do this and I don't know how to do it. Can someone please explain this to me?

8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Need a glycerine and coconut oil soap recipe on: September 15, 2006 02:49:41 PM
Martinsville,

thanks so much for all the info. You cleared up a lot of things for me that I need to know before I attempt to make soap.

Clear soap is out of the question.

The ingredients on the bar of soap that I bought are: palm oil/coconut oil and glycerine. That's all that it says. I bought it from Whole Food Market in NYC.
9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Need a glycerine and coconut oil soap recipe on: September 14, 2006 06:04:22 PM
I just want to make a basic soap with just glycerine and coconut oil, no fragrances or colors. Does anyone know where I can get a recipe for that?

Also, I've never made soap before but I've been doing a lot of research about it. Does homemade soap last longer than store bought soap?

I buy a glycerine and coconut oil soap for $1 for 4 oz. Is this expensive? Can I make it at home cheaper?
