1  Re: Bag of Talent Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by dragonmama on: April 02, 2009 10:46:40 PM
Firstly, I'd like to apologize for taking so long to post these pictures! I actually received last week but someone must have stolen my brain because I've been so out of it!

aeronberry and I decided to make project bags for each other. so this was what she termed an 'urban hiking crochet bag'. I just call it 'the best damned bag I've ever owned!' within minutes of opening the package, I was transitioning my old purse to this one.

IIIII LOOOOOVEEEEE IIIIIT!!!!

It's so so so so so so so me! Honestly, this is probably one of the best things I've ever received in a swap and it will certainly get A LOT of use. Cheesy

Here's a close up of the cuuuute lining:

The amaaaaing pleating (my favorite part):

The great embroidered bird!:

And my full purse lol

She also sent me a fantabulous circular needle holder Cheesy

And I haven't sent her bag yet... I've been such a poor swapper lately. Sad I will be sending it Saturday, though, I hope.

Thank you again! And what a great idea for a swap ^_^

2  Re: I Want to Learn to (blank) Swap!! in The Swap Gallery by dragonmama on: April 02, 2009 10:38:44 PM
I got this amazing bookmaking package from EowynUlysses the other day and it's so perfect!

Here's the whole shebang!

Lots of tools of the trade:

Including a paper cutter, which I've wanted for some time!

But the most beautiful paper is what really got me *swoon* It's all so me! And I especially love that so much of it is repurposed (like the old maps!)

She also made two books to show different binding techniques but I forgot to take pictures. Sad

Thanks so much! This swap has been wonderful, I hope there is another round. Smiley

Details of Swap:

It's all about birds!
This swap was greatly inspired by Creative Kismet. Thank you!

Like the originator of this idea, I love the idea of collecting handcrafted birds to display around my house. My ideal solution for this is to have all sorts of birds from all sorts of places in all sorts of mediums. This gives each person all the room they need to be CREATIVE! Cheesy

This swap will be a group swap with handmade birds, in any medium (paper, felt, glass, ANYTHING!), traded among friends. Each bird should be roughly the size of the palm of your hand (roughly 4x6) and can be two- or three-dimensional.

The group aspect comes in because we will be split into groups and you will make ONE BIRD for EVERY PERSON in your group. So if you have 5 people in your group, you will make and send 5 birds by the send date.

You may choose to send to ONE group of 5 people or to TWO groups (10 birds total). Please specify in the questionnaire.

This IS an international swap so please bear that in mind when crafting your birds as you probably don't want to make them solid steel or anything. Wink

Before sending, please take a picture of your birds and email it to the organizer (handmadebirds@gmail.com) to confirm that you are ready to send. Only when ALL members of YOUR group have done so should you send the birds out.

Rules:

Please put "HANDMADE BIRDS" in the title of all pms.

ETA: This swap may entail you sending a bird or two internationally. If you cannot send internationally even a few ounces, please do not sign up for this swap. Thank you!

IMPORTANT: Do not send your birds until everyone in your group is "green-lighted". All participants must check in at least once a week, by pm or by posting in this thread.

If your partner is within the US, you MUST get a DC and pm it to the organizer and your partner.

NOTE: Feedback will ONLY be given after you send, receive, and post pictures of what you received. If you do not have a camera, please make arrangements with your partner so they can take pictures before they send.

To participate, and to indicate you've read the rules, pm the questionnaire and put the word RADIO somewhere in the message.

To be approved, the questionnaire must be completely filled out (unless you don't have any wists/websites, of course).

4  Re: (Old Fashioned) Random Swap 2009 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by dragonmama on: February 21, 2009 09:05:54 PM
I received from HarleyQuinn today!

She made two blankets for my boys that are TOTALLY perfect for them both!

C, with his poor little chapped cheeks, but he's still happy!

E, proudly modeling his awesome car blanket!

And a lapghan for me!!! I'm using it right now lol. It was her very first quilt and it's just so right for me. Cheesy

E demonstrating the felt toy basket from my wists. I'd forgotten it was on there, but I really love it and it's going to get a lot of use.

More great things from my wist! A wraparound bracelet that can also be worn as a necklace, and two shawl/scarf pins; both were new things for HarleyQuinn to try and she did a wonderful job.

Here's a "mommy bracelet" with the boys' first initials. I will wear this with pride Cheesy

And then there is the best of the best of the best! I've been wanting one of these for months, and have put them on swap wishlists four times lol

Handmade journals! THREE of them!

They're really fantastic, even more so because she hasn't been doing it all that long but they look really, really good ^_^

Details of Swap:

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see? -- Alice

Through the looking glass and into the world of Alice!

For over 140 years, Lewis Carroll's wonderful world of Alice has inspired countless artists and authors to look the world through the fantastical eyes of a child.

With this swap, we will be taking our cues from those artists, authors, and Carroll himself as we sew, paint, decopauge, spin, and knit our way to our own version of Wonderland.

Crafters of all shapes and skills are welcome to participate!

This swap will be for 6, 10, or 12 points, which you will specify in the questionnaire below. At least 4 of the points, no matter which you choose, MUST be one large or two mediums. You may purchase handcrafted items from places such as etsy for up to 3 points.

Simply put, ONE hour = $10 = ONE point.

There are 7 weeks of crafting time, so no sweat!

Rules:

Please put at least "ALICE" in the title of all pms.

All participants must check in at least once a week, by pm or by posting in this thread.

If your partner is within the US, you MUST get a DC and pm it to the organizer and your partner.

Important note: Feedback will ONLY be given after you send, receive, and post pictures of what you received. If you do not have a camera, please make arrangements with your partner so they can take pictures before they send.

Apologies to opheliapoe for taking so long to post these. Sad It's been a crap month, but it's starting to get better.

Here's most everything, except the cute toys she made too. Those have been claimed by the Littles. Smiley

From the left:
an awesome sewing machine cover, a tea/finger towel, two hot pads, hot pad/trivet, two really cool refurbished tea tins (already in use!), a pincushion/sewing box (taking up residence next to my sewing machine), and one of my favorite bits, lavender bath salts!

Thank you rira and opheliapoe for understanding the circumstances of my late send and posting pictures. Thank you rira for hosting a really fun swap, and especially thank you opheliapoe for making such an attentive package of goodies for me. Smiley

9  Hooded Patchwork Shrug in Crochet: Completed Projects by dragonmama on: September 26, 2008 07:31:40 AM
In the Is it Fall Yet? swap I just finished, I found myself very inspired by my partner's hippyness and that she lives in a colder climate. So in response to her love of hoodies, I came up with this design. I've never seen anything quite like it and that makes me rather proud!

Here it is, being modeled by my lovely swap partner, jadeye.

I made it out of three bulky/super-bulky weight yarns and one that was on the thinner side but I liked the color coordination. I also used one of those semi-icky novelty yarns to stitch it together, and used it with the green yarn to stitch the hood and cuffs.

I'm currently set up to start one for myself because I liked hers so much. Cheesy

It took nearly 12 hours to make hers but that was partly because I was creating the pattern/concept while I was working, and contending with sickness and a newborn lol. I'm contemplating selling these, but I can't decide if it there's enough interest.

10  What Would You Charge or Pay? - Pricing Original Crocheted Items to Sell in Get Product and Website Opinions by dragonmama on: September 25, 2008 02:05:40 PM
I have a tendency to sell my self short when it comes to things I make to sell. So I've come to you all to find out either how much you would sell this item for, or how much you would be willing to buy it for.

Here's a picture of the one I'm contemplating for sale, but I certainly would like to somewhat compensated for the time and effort. Picture is of my swap partner who received the first one. (and was the inspiration for!)

All total I probably spent as much 12 hours making the blasted thing lol. I know that the more I make them, the less time it's going to take. Yarn wasn't a great expense, it was all acrylic, so maybe $30 in yarn.

Thank you!
