1  Moving into a house... UGLY cupboards! in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by irockmysocksoff on: December 09, 2010 09:58:33 AM
My boyfriend, roommate and I are moving into a house in 11 days. Pretty short notice. The house is so cute, and has a ton of potential, except we are renting.  I am really excited about this place for quite a few reasons:

1. My boyfriend's aunt is going to be our landlord, and her husband, the maintenance guy.
2. IT IS A HOUSE! Well, duplex, but a HOUSE. Not a stinkin' apartment.
3.It is like a 2 minute walk to the center of downtown, and like a 5 minute walk to Caribou coffee, and right on the bus line which is great seeing that I don't drive.

However, these kitchen cupboards are so nasty. Now, since we are just renting, and poor, we can't do anything to these nastys, but I Would like to make them more aesthetically pleasing, since I do spend a lot of time in the kitchen.  Does anyone have any ideas for something that is a non-permanent fix for these?:

So, here's the thing, I sort of do appreciate that they are already white, which is pretty cute, but it is the nasty wood bordering it.  (I can not STAND the look of wood, I have no idea why, I just don't like it) Its not like I can change the drawer pulls, because there aren't any. I am just at a loss.

Just thought I would add: none of the junk on the counters is ours, these were taken on the 1st of the month, and the previous tenants had literally just moved out. And that weird looking microwave thing on the counter in the first picture is actually a mini dishwasher we learned. weird.

First, I would like to tell my partner sorry times a million!!! My bosses at both of my jobs had me working a TON the last few weeks, which has made me not wanna do anything, even so much as turn on my computer.  However, I did receive a TERRIFIC package from Bexxer!!
First, Fate "bandages" based on my fave character, Charlie!!

Which, by the way, he is on my wallet (Not really related to the swap, but a Christmas Present from my boyfriend)

A great Namaste Necklace:

A Dharma Initiative Charm Bracelet:

And probably the best part of the package, the piece everyone should be jealous they didn't receive:

I love it!!! I Love it all!!! Thanks again Bexxer!!!!!

By the way, I just have to say last night's episode was awesome, and I totally called the end.  Anyway, Namaste!!!

Aaaahhh Edwards1, how do I love thee, haha! I received last night, what an amazing surprise to come home to after an unexpected day at work (I wasn't supposed to work, then out of nowhere my manager asked me to come in in an hour, so, SO sorry Edwards1 but I had to postpone the send out once again but here are pics as proof that I have it all boxed up and ready to go, however I am considering re-doing did redo the covering on the outside of the box because it is a reused box:

!!!(I wrote this all last night, so an update, I am literally just about to leave my house to take it to the post office)

Anywho... Here is the amazing package I received from edwards1:
My letter:

With official Hogwarts crest :]  =

Signed by none other than Mr. Potter himself (I love him)=

Everything together:

Now, solo shots (in order they were in in the letter:
"From Hermione:Since she no longer makes hats for S.P.E.W, she was longing to make something for you.  She knows how much she loved our scarves we had while in Hogwarts, so she figured you would enjoy one just as much."
Boy, she has NO idea how much  I enjoy this baby! Is is HUGE and thick, and will be perfect in these Minnesota winters. I am wearing it right now actually because I am cold, and it is PERFECT!

And by the way I have secretly always wanted one, I never had it wisted it, but I wanted one BAD. Guess we know who I am going to be for Halloween :]

NEXT: From Ron:He was getting tired of Pig's friends so he decided to let one tag along for the ride and deliver your package.  But, it was too big for him to carry. So, he just jumped inside" And attached to him was a letter:

it says: The owl wasn't really responsible enough to carry your package. So we gave him a fake letter to make himself feel important.  He will be expecting a payment though. Just humor him." [I didn't get a very good pic of him]

Next is from Ginny:She decided to make you a small magical looking bag.  She also made you a necklace with a little bit of a warning on it that she takes personally.

And, wait, whats this inside the bag??

YAY!!! Also wearing that right now :]
From Mrs, Weasley: She couldn't resist making something for your box as well. She knitted a little something to show your Gryffindor spirit."    It is already on my bed ready to be used I used it last night, and it is comfy! Also, Edwards1, my mom, who never compliments anything, said that your work looked very professional, and she likes it and the scarf a lot!

And last, but not least, something from edwards1: "I recently found something of Dumbledore's that I thought I would add to the package as well.  He would have wanted you to have it."
(It took me literally an hour to take a pic of this:

AND ----
---GRYFFINDOR----
---WINS!!!
Then Toby sniffed it:
Sorry for the ridiculously long post. I love my partner, she is amazing! I think I should change my username to Edwards1rocksmysocksoff :]

OOPS: almost forgot one! A DA painting! This will definitely have a home in my room!!!!
Funny story about this actually- I looked at it and was like "What the heck is DA.  Then my mom took it and looked at it, and I asked (outloud this time) :"What the heck is DA" When I said those letters out loud, it clicked, Dumbledore's Army. And my mom goes "Duh, Jordan. It says so right here, and points to the bottom where it says, quite clearly, "Dumbledore's Army". Smiley Dumb moment of the day

Thanks soo much!

7  Choo-Choo bag for my sister in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by irockmysocksoff on: March 22, 2008 10:48:46 AM
My sister is turning 5 today!! My parents went to a toy store the other day and bought her a Thomas The Train play mat and two trains to go with it so they suggested that I just get her another train. but hey I'm a craftster. So the bf and I went to the toy store and I bought her a dairy train that says MOO when you slide open one of the doors. and the bf got her a Chinese Dragon one.

But of course I couldn't give her JUST those! So I drug my bf to Hobby Lobby and saw this fabric. LIGHTBULB!!

So I decided to make her a bag to put her trains in. It's a little big considering she only has 4 trains so far. I think I did an okay job considering it is my first REAL project other than my dress recon for a dance.

This is a magnetic board i own that i used to determine the size.

WIP

THEN I finish and see that part of the fabric was smaller than the lining

So i fixed it and this is the finished product-

up close-\

It doesn't look that round-y at the top, it's really all square it was just because it was hanging on my door rather than a person.  Like I said not bad practice for me, Helped me practice straight sewing Wink

This took a lot longer to type and stuff considering I am supposed to be keeping my  almost-1 yr. old brother occupied as my mother cleans my sister's room to get ready for the party, and I got in trouble for being on the computer like 3 times already. ENJOY

8  Wooden letters AND Switch Plate/ Outlet Covers :) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by irockmysocksoff on: March 22, 2008 10:27:01 AM
So, I saw a tute on here somewhere, (sooo sorry I can't seem to find it, if anyone can, PLEASE feel free to post it) on how to make wooden letters using scrapbook paper and Mod Podge.   and of course, was inspired. No real background to this... well I guess a little, So, my bedroom is originally Black, White, and Grey based off of my Black and white pictures I have in my room of Marilyn Monroe and Then I saw this Scrapbook paper and I had to use it for my letters, (the paper that is on the D, E, M) Well they are Smiley

Then I saw switch Plates on here, No particular post, just a bunch. So, of course, I needed some of those too. Sorry this picture is blurry, I couldn't seem to get my hand steady for the picture.

And then I decided, well, why not make outlet covers too:

And an action shot (haha) thanks to my amazing-o Cell Phone Charger and Alarm Clock Wink
