41  Re: Bookmark Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by gossamer_gull on: January 20, 2009 05:11:34 PM
I have received my fourth and final bookmark, from belladune.  Among my proposed themes were "occult" and "symbology," so she made me this funky fabric rune marker:

And the obverse:

Very cool.  Thanks, belladune!!

The tag on the end of the marker says "Earth Air Fire Water" in really cool script.

Oooo, and it's an ambigram!

This has been a very cool gallery to follow, and I am finally about to contribute to it.  I have received three wonderful, unique bookmarks, and am awaiting the fourth and final (meandering down from Canada).  In the meantime, here are the goodies I've received.

First to arrive was this simple but elegant cut-paper-and-ribbon combo from spotnik:

I really like the movie-reel effect, and the fact that it's double-sided.  Thanks, spotnik!!

Then came franaroon's tidily-stitched fabric-and-magnet construction:

This looks very professional, and it's in my favorite color.  Thanks, franaroon!!

The latest arrival is this monogrammed faux book spine from naggie_maggie:

Talk about form following function:  the other side even shows the opposite view of a book, with gold-edged pages.  Thanks, naggie_maggie!!

I apologize for not having responded individually before now.  I definitely do appreciate the beautiful bookmarks I've received.  Thanks to my partners for your lovely creations!  They put the "fun" back in "functional."  (Yes, I actually typed that.  I am exactly that corny.)

Thanks too to our organizers for a really fun swap.  This has been awesome, and I'll be keeping my eyes open for a Round Two!

Next, a mask box, shou symbol box, earrings, and Clue-boardgame-themed bookmark:

And here is a closeup of the earrings and bookmark:

45  "Coy Vixen" X-Stitch Bookmarks (1 w/Koi fish, 1 w/Fox) in Needlework: Completed Projects by gossamer_gull on: June 11, 2008 01:43:59 PM
Here are a couple cross-stitch bookmarks I made for friends.

The koi are from a handtowel pattern; the kanji (which, if I remember correctly, means "good fortune") I adapted from a larger pattern. Both are from the same book (whose title eludes me at the moment) of Asian-themed needlework designs.

The fox is stitched from a pattern, and I just used graph paper to chart the "dictionary entry" to fit what space I had:

46  "Touch...Trust" Altered Book in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by gossamer_gull on: June 11, 2008 01:31:44 PM
I did this a few years back but only just rediscovered the picture:

The 5 dark circles on the left-hand page are typewriter keys spelling "touch." Other materials used include: gold paint...mixed papers...artificial leaves, flowers...glass marbles...antique keys...milkweed seeds, pebbles, tree bark....

I just rediscovered this picture of a Lovecraft-inspired cookie I made ages ago:

And just think: you are what you eat!

48  Re: ARRRGGG Pirate Cake in Dessert by gossamer_gull on: May 02, 2008 02:16:38 PM
Ha! That's too fabulous! Great job!

I have never attempted a ship-shaped cake, but I did make this much simpler one a few years ago, for a pirate-themed Halloween party:

As you can see from the photo, the Homies' ship has sunk -- but note the familiar peanut-butter-cup crow's nest!

49  Boober Fraggle T-Shirt in Completed Projects by gossamer_gull on: April 29, 2008 09:42:49 AM
I didn't really think this fit in "Clothing" or "More Art, Less Craft"....Anyway, I painted this a while back as a Christmas present for my best friend:

50  Basket o' Flowers Wedding Cake in Dessert by gossamer_gull on: August 05, 2007 02:34:38 PM
I made this cake for a friend's potluck wedding:

I went with artificial flowers on the top after getting frustrated with frosting and fondant. (July is not the best month for cake decorating.)
