1  Re: Bookmark Swap Round 3 Gallery of Bibliophilic Love in The Swap Gallery by gossamer_gull on: September 15, 2010 07:03:40 PM
More and more pretties every time I look in the gallery.  (I'm loving that voodoo doll bookmark!)

I have received my final bookmarks, which is awesome!...but sad.  Until next round, though, I'll be enjoying the gallery.  And here are the final additions to my collection.

Crystallized_art sent me a corner bookmark (my first ever, actually), with interchangeable images.  Here's the bookmark in use:

(It's inside The Unwritten, Vol. I:  Tommy Taylor and the Bogus Identity.  I thought it appropriate to pair a sideshow-themed bookmark with an image of a winged cat!)

In this picture, you can see the back of the bookmark, as well as the other three image options:

The little image cards attach to the bookmark with little Velcro circles.  Thanks, crystallized_art!  This was a really creative bookmark style!  (And a girl can never have too many sideshow performers...)

Finally, kittenmittens sent a fanciful twisted-wire clip-style bookmark, shown in a journal (received in another swap, I believe):

Here's a view of the bookmark (very floral and organic, isn't it?) as well as a couple extras (a decorative paper band with perfect bookmark proportions Cheesy and a fragrant glycerin soap):

Thanks, kittenmittens -- it's great!

2  Steampunk Box in Completed Projects by gossamer_gull on: September 12, 2010 07:13:48 PM
I found a plain wooden humidor at a flea market.  It had very nice lines and color, so I bought and decorated it in a steampunk style.  Today, I gave it to my friends as a wedding gift.

In use (as a card holder) on the gift table:

I was pretty pleased with it, and even more pleased that everyone else seemed to like it, too!

Thanks for looking!

I received 3 bookmarks today, 2 simple-but-elegant thong/tassel markers from DarthSqurl and one fun paper collage from Rainbowsaurus.

Here's an "action shot" of the gold tassel bookmark from DarthSqurl:

Here's a closeup, the better to appreciate the cute little orange button:

Here's a closeup of the bauble atop the purple thong marker from DarthSqurl:

And here you can see the bottom bits as well:

I love the little silver eye bead and, of course, the wee little key.  (One of my theme suggestions was "skeleton keys.")  Thanks, DarthSqurl!!!

"Circus sideshows" was another of my theme suggestions, so I got a double-sided collage of vintage freak-show images from Rainbowsaurus.  Here's the front:

And here's the back:

(FYI, it's inside The Bibliophile's Devotional.)  Thanks, Rainbowsaurus -- this is right up my midway alley!!!

One of the great things about the bookmark swap galleries is the fact that, while everyone's making the same thing, there's an amazing variety of styles.  Very fun and inspirational!

That being said, I would like to share the first bookmark I've received, a multilevel, multilingual mouse marker, made by cassiecate57:

Here's a closeup of the beady bits:

I love how the blue bead is a little mouse with white felt ears and long plastic tail.  Thanks much, cassiecate57 -- I love it!  Cheesy

5  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap Gallery - JULY '10 in The Swap Gallery by gossamer_gull on: August 10, 2010 06:34:30 PM
I got my card from gossamer_gull!  My scan of the card isn't very good but it's got all kinds of bits and things and textures.  She included a couple of my themes non-paper and red.  The shooting star is my favourite part.  Thanks gossamer_gull!  I love it   Cheesy

Yay -- the card arrived with all the bits and bobs still attached!  Glad you like it!

And here's the amazing "Papa Legba Veve" that Oyhana made for my Voodoo theme:

It looks even cooler in person.  Thanks!!  Grin

I have received two beautiful cards!  The first, from kmac, is "Hedgehogs" -- though she incorporated my "sideshow" and "eldritch" themes as well:

So creative and cute!!  And on the back, there's a fable:

I'm pretty sure the moral is:  "Don't brag to hedgehogs.  They're pricklyGrin

I also received muddy21's beautiful interpretation of my "illuminated manuscript" theme, an ATC with my initials:

As a bonus, she included the slightly larger original letters.  (She had to shrink them to fit on the ATC.)

Thanks, kmac and muddy21, for two clever, creative, colorful cards!!!

Beautiful start to the gallery!  I'm going to continue this trend by sharing "Lake Michigan in the Gloaming," received from curiousfae (based on my "twilight/crepusculum/gloaming" theme):

Gorgeous, no?  Thanks much, curiousfae!!!

I have received this awesome card, "The Joker" (on my jokers/jesters theme) from Krafty Karasu:

There's the added bonus of it being an altered playing card.  I really like that she used a joker card without an actual jester image on it and added one herself!  Thanks, Krafty Karasu -- this is a really fun ATC! Grin

I have received my fourth and final bookmark, this delicately crocheted creation by Waterbaby:

Isn't it lovely?  She thought the color and design would appeal to me due to my liking the Victorian aesthetic -- and she was right!  Thanks, Waterbaby -- I love this!

And thanks to all my partners and everyone else in this swap for making and sharing such beautiful, inspirational items!  (Now I only hope the rest of my creations are received...)

I have received three amazing bookmarks!  I've been lax in posting pictures of the first two, which I received a couple days ago.  First is a wonderfully vintage-y decoupaged bookmark by Camelama:

She ran with my "cats" and "red & gold" themes.  (The coloring in the picture is a bit off, but the trim, as well as the entire back side, is a lovely pale gold.)  It's sturdy without being clunky, and it's absolutely beautiful.  Thank you, Camelama -- I love it!

On the same day, I received this fantastic felt bookmark from Stellou:

She incorporated one of my favorite motifs (Celtic knotwork) and color combos (red & black) into a masterpiece of embroidery and crochet!  (Again, the colors are a bit off here; the red is really much richer.)  I'm really impressed with how pretty, precise and professional it is.  Thank you, Stellou!

Then, today, I received a double-sided card from Ramona Q, who drew inspiration from a couple of reading subjects/genres I listed.  One of these was circus history, for which she created this collage of old ad images:

The other was graphic novels, which led her to this bit of brilliance:

As explained in her note:  "The paper...from a 1930's book on gardening...reminded me of...a comic book...So I went with that idea and made Iris into a human and the Iris borer into an evil villain."  What an awesome, creative idea! Thank you, Ramona Q -- it's great!
