1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / My first completed embroidery! on: March 19, 2012 03:46:27 AM
I came across this C.S. Lewis quote on Pinterest: "You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me" and instantly knew I had to incorporate it into a gift for my book-loving, tea-drinking Mum.  I had dabbled in embroidery but never finished anything so I'm quite pleased with how this li'l piece turned out.  It's not perfect but my Mum loved it and I learnt lots to help me in future projects.  Please excuse the poor photography but I was in a rush!

I ended up using applique for the book covers as I was running out of time and wasn't sure I could get them looking neat without a bit of practice first.  Needless to say, I think I am going to become hooked on embroidery and am really looking forward to learning some 'proper' techniques instead of just winging it like I did with this!
2  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / UK Stitch 'n' Bitch Day! 10th November on: July 29, 2007 02:48:54 AM
Hi everyone,

Not sure whether this has already been posted elsewhere but tickets are now on sale for UK Stitch 'n' Bitch Day.  It's taking place 10th November in London and Debbie Stoller will be launching her new book there (the one with all the patterns for men's things).  My friend's brother is the organiser and it sounds like it's going to be fab!  Here is the link for more info...

3  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Happy Hooker...help...left my book at home! on: July 09, 2007 02:36:51 AM
Hi all,

I want to make a Short & Sweet from the Happy Hooker and am leaving work early today to go & get my yarn.....but I've forgotten my book and can't remember what yarn the pattern recommends or how much I need to make the medium!  Does anyone have the book to hand??  I just finished my first Short & Sweet yesterday and used a slightly bulkier cotton yarn which looks great but I wanted to use one more closely matched to the recommnded yarn this time!

Thanks,

Jen
4  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / Yarn stores London? on: November 06, 2006 06:50:36 AM
I will be in London for most of this week and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some decent yarn shops?  I live in Liverpool and there is very little choice here so was hoping to stock up in London!  I'd prefer places in central London but if anyone knows of any outstanding stores a bit further out, I'd make the journey.  Somewhere I could find beautiful quality wools alongside cheapo stuff would be great but I find most places are either one or the other!
