Hello all! This is my first time posting something I've made, so I hope you like it =)
I had been trying to figure out a good way to hold my necklaces and earrings. I don't have a huge amount of either so I didn't need a big earring tree or anything like that, just something fairly simple that would keep the stuff off my dresser, nightstand, etc. and could be a nice decorative touch to my room. So I came up with this:http://starsprinkles.net/lj/corkboard/final.jpg
I found a two-pack of corkboard at the dollar store and got some decently priced fabric that matched my room's colors at Walmart. Cut the fabric to be a bit larger than the corkboard, enough larger to be able to fold it over on each side:http://starsprinkles.net/lj/corkboard/step1.jpg
I folded two sides over and glued them with regular old Elmer's school glue:http://starsprinkles.net/lj/corkboard/step2.jpg
After letting it dry, I cut the corners of the other sides so they wouldn't bunch up at the corners and did the same folding/gluing:http://starsprinkles.net/lj/corkboard/step3.jpghttp://starsprinkles.net/lj/corkboard/step4.jpg
Since that a) looks horrible and b) would probably not be very secure, I then glued some cardstock to the back and attached some picture hangers to the top with thumbtacks:http://starsprinkles.net/lj/corkboard/step5.jpg
And, finally, I used some masking tape to attach a line of lace ribbon along the bottom to put my earrings in, and pushpins on the front to hang the necklaces on (which you can see in the finished pic above):http://starsprinkles.net/lj/corkboard/step6.jpg
So far it's served me well! And it was super cheap and simple to make. Yay! The only adjustment I'd make if I did it again would be to use both corkboards that came in the pack, because, as you can see, the pushpins actually went all the way through! It doesn't really matter because it's against the wall, but still, I'd check the depth of the corkboard against the depth of the pushpins if I were doing it again.
