4  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Davey Jones mask (Pirates of the Caribbean, not the Monkee) on: April 03, 2013 05:50:19 AM

My 1st grade son is invited to an Under the Sea-themed birthday party. When he heard that costumes are encouraged, he asked me to crochet him a Davey Jones (cthulhu) mask. Add a $4 hat from Michaels and a feather -- done!

I started freehanding this one night, so I don't have a pattern -- but in order to make the ends of the tentacles curl, you just chain like 15 at the end, then dc pretty snugly back toward the tentacle. It'll curl on its own!

To keep it on, I just tied a spare piece of elastic to the area by the ears -- it's pretty comfortable.

Oh, and he wants you to know that the tentacle on the right is about to remove his hat for him.

Thanks for looking!

Not all of them do, and not all the time. Ooooh, the thrill of the hunt!

That's terrific! For me, the smaller you want to make something, the more challenging it is to make it still look like what you want. Yours is fantastic!
