2  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Geek Quilt on: August 31, 2012 04:46:23 PM
My son moved in to his dorm room today. I just finished his quilt at midnight last night-phew that was cutting it close!

I cut stencils for the center squares and stenciled them with textile paint before sewing it all together. ALl of the designs are symbols from my son's favorite  geeky and sci-fi books, movies, tv shows, video games and web sites. My son is my sci-fi movie watching buddy. I'm really going to miss him when he is away at school. Making this quilt was therapy for me. It's not perfect but I feel better thinking of him sleeping under it when he is away at school  Cheesy

Hyperbole and a Half web site, Hitchhiker's Guide, Firefly, Harry Potter, Portal, Big Bang Theory

3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Chell from Portal 2 on: November 08, 2011 02:15:43 PM
My daughter (13) LOVES Portal 2 and really wanted to be Chell for Halloween.

We found an orange jumpsuit and altered it to fit her, stenciled it with freezer paper stencils, and stenciled the white tank that goes underneath:

The hardest part was the boots though. I had to make a pattern first. They were made out of thick white vinyl, that I had to hand sew because of a four day long blackout! (OUCH!)

Bit the COOLEST part was the wheatley candy bucket my daughter made out of paper mache and various recycled bits:

She had to do this during the blackout too...

4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Needle Felted Duck Pond on: March 29, 2011 12:05:27 PM
I finished this needle felted playmat last week:

Mama duck and her ducklings share this pond with a turtle.

5  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Angry Bird on: March 26, 2011 09:02:07 PM
My husband is obsessed with the game.  I made this just so I could throw it at him to get his attention Wink

It's made from a woolen pom pom, with the features needle felted on. So it's nice and soft should someone happen to throw it at your head. Grin
6  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Wet Felted Bird House on: March 25, 2011 04:07:33 PM

Made with merino wool, wet felted over a balloon. I hope something will move into it this spring!
7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Pom Pom Creatures on: March 23, 2011 02:50:54 PM
I've been making pom pom chicks and bunnies and mice this week:

They're all just made from merino wool roving made into pom poms, with glass beads and eyes sewn on.
There's a chick tutorial on my blog here: http://www.freewebs.com/dragonflyducky/pompomchicks.htm

Using roving makes them especially soft, but yarn pom poms will work as well!
8  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Ladybug Baby Booties on: March 18, 2011 02:47:20 PM
I made these little booties over the weekend:

The base is wet felted and the design is needle felted. I love wool! Smiley
9  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Mistletoe Monster on: December 08, 2010 03:18:26 PM

10  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Needle Felted Snowman-made a tutorial (link)! on: November 21, 2010 03:00:00 PM
I've been making these little guys the past few weeks and decided to make a tutorial:

It's a great project for a beginner...and would make  a cute ornament too.

Tutorial is on my blog here:
