1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Redoecorating a Political Office on: May 03, 2007 12:04:55 PM
To make a long story short: I'm dating a boy and got involved in politics and now I get to redecorate the local party HQ.

We are doing some remodeling and this is what the room (please excuse crappy paint pic) will look like.

It will be pretty big. Enough to fill the area with at least 30 of these chairs.

Yes, they will be that color.

So here is what I need help with. I need help picking a color scheme for walls and flooring and window treatments. It has to match the blue chairs, it has to look professional, and it can't be anything too crazy.

I was thinking reds and blues, you know, good old patriotic colors. Or maybe nice warm deep yellow/gold and olive greens--kinda a calming professional suite.

And ideas? And examples? Any any on-line references? Anything would help. I really appreciate this so much. I thought it would be a lot easier, but turns out there are a lot of different people I have to please, so I gotta do my best.
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Help Attaching Lining... on: October 27, 2006 06:58:32 AM
I haven't sewen anything in nearly 8 years, so I'm a little rusty. I'm sewing a bottom bucket purse--using Mcalls 4905 http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4905.htm?tab=easy_stitch_n_save&page=3
(It's the top right one)

So, for the life of me, I have NO idea how to attach the lining to the bag. I can't make out the instructions. I know how to finish the edges of both the lining and the bag, and then attach both at the top of the bag, but is there some way to sew the side seams and top seams and some how flip the bag, so the sides are attached to each other? Does this make sense?

I've thought I had it figured out a couple of times, but I've speant over 4 hours ripping seams on this project--I MUST finish this bag now, just to show it who is boss! Smiley

I've gone thru a couple of pages on the board and haven't found much to help. And I'm in a little bit of a rush. I really apprecaite any help at all! Thanks so much!
3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Necchi 3101 Sewing Machine Instructions on: October 18, 2006 07:51:56 AM
My dad recently bought me a Necchi 3101 sewing machine from a garage sale for $15. Apparently it was a student model for a home ec class. So, I plugged it in, and it works, but I have NO idea how to use anything. It only has two knobs.

I usually sew on my mother's 1970s Kenmore, but this is beyond me.

Normally I would just play with it, but I need to complete a sewing project quickly. Anyone else have a Necchi? Or know how to use one? I haven't really been able to find anything on the boards.

Thanks so much for your help!!
4  COOKING / Dessert / Help Making A Nerd Cake on: October 11, 2006 09:56:59 AM
My boyfriend has a birthday coming up, and I'm throwing him a surprise party. He needs an awesome cake to go with is awesome party.

The thing is, he's pretty nerdy. And so are all his friends. They'll be playing video/computer games all weekend.

So, I'm thinking about making either a computer cake or a game console cake--like a PlayStation 2 or an XBox cake.

But I cant find anything on the internet. Has anyone done this before? Or have any ideas? I've poked around and haven't seen anything.

Thanks in advance for the help!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / XMas Present for a 15 Year Old Boy on: September 27, 2006 01:40:55 PM
    * What's the occasion? Christmas
    * Relationship to you - brother
    * Age - 15
    * Likes - video games, computer games, SWORDS!
    * Hobbies - playing said games and playing with said swords and
                     other wise being dorky
    * pervious gifts - shelves for is boys stuff.
    * Style - uhm, dorky? ecltic boy stuf. randon nicknacks.does he/she
          like "crafty", modern, etc.?

I no longer live with my younger brother. He's basically an only child now that all of us sisters have grown up. I asked him what he wants and he said money. But I wanted to give him something. I was thinking maybe a duct tape or comic book wallet for cash and a bowl of somesort for change.

He's really just a 15 year old boy that's dorky. Nothing trendy or posh about him. I don't know what kinds of games he'd want or otherwise has.

And I'd like to do something sword related, but I don't know what. Any sword ideas?

Thanks SO much!
6  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / What can I do with this soap? on: September 20, 2006 11:21:28 AM
Old Navy was having a huge sale on all their beauty products and I picked up 30+ bars of soap. They were 50 cents each.

They are "Kiss my Face" brand which started out as a small locally owned company that makes enviromentally friendly soap. No animal ingredients, no animal testing, and no artificial colors.

I picked up all three flavors--Lavender and Sandalwood, Green Tea and Mint, and Orange and Chocolate.

The ingredients are Sodium palm kernelate, water, olea europea (pure olive olive) aloe barbadensis gel, shea butter, palm acids, sodium chloride, glycerin, palm kernel acids, tetrasodium edta, tetrasodium etidronate, fragrance.

I've tried to melt the stuff down, and it doesnt work. I get nice little flakes.

Any ideas about what I can do with it? Make bath confetti? Use it in other soaps? Melt it another way? I really have no idea but I would like to use it all, especially with the holidays coming up.

Any help would be appreciated.
