1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Letterboxing Swap? on: April 17, 2008 09:11:41 AM
I was JUST thinking about this.... the weather is perfect for it!  But I am having a baby in 7 days, sooo.... a swap is out for now.  Undecided
I do hope this takes off, though!

Congrats and best wishes to you!

We had a chance to get two easy boxes last weekend, and my 8 yr. old has discovered "virtual" letterboxes.  I print out the puzzles and she works on them when she doesn't have much homework.

I'm still interested in swapping, but I've never done a Craftster swap, so I don't think I should/could organize it.

Some ideas for swapping -
A lanyard for your compass
A felt pocket for your stamp / pad / markers & pens
A decorated 3-ring binder for organizing clues & maps

It seems like letterboxers are very individual, so I'd want to get to know my swap partner to figure out what to trade.

Just peeking in to say I'm still interested if anyone else is!  The weather was decent enough yesterday that I got out and found a recently planted series of 3 boxes.

Guess what?!  I made my son a version of this beanie for his 4th birthday!

The pattern for the cap came from http://www.angelfire.com/wv/happyghan/twinstitch.html.  Yarn was from my grandmother's and mother's stashes.

He really likes it.  He grabs it and pulls it on every time we leave the house.

(The images from Craftster photo hosting aren't showing up in the preview.  Hopefully they'll come through in the post.)

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: What's a Good Size for Baby Blankets? on: October 22, 2007 08:25:00 AM
Here's a vote from me for a car seat blanket.  A great aunt made a granny square about 18" on a side.  I had no idea what to do with it until I realized it was perfect for the car seat and stroller.  I would strap my son into his seat and then tuck the blanket around him.  Larger blankets, while fine for holding the child or playing on the floor, end up dragging on the pavement when I put them in the stroller.

This weekend I bought a small air tight plastic box. I'm still not sure if I can justify hiding it somewhere in the great outdoors or if I should take one of the old plastic lunch boxes that are starting to look worn...

Oh, Annchen!  If you use the old lunch box, please make sure it's watertight.  There's nothing worse than having a waterlogged log book after you put that work into the box.  Ziplock bags help, but a good box is your first defense.

When we stamp in one color, we have a 'Colorbox' stamp pad.  Lately we've been doing multi-color stamps using Marvy markers. (Use your craft store 40% off coupons on these!)

Sorry to hear about the poison ivy.  Unfortunately we're guilty of planting a box in poison ivy.  We planted it in February when the ground was clear, but by late spring the area was covered in the poison.  That's one drawback to planting in cold weather, but we love the bug- and sweat-free hiking that comes with cold weather boxing.

I'd prefer to not send out our things until Halloween or a bit later, but I can probably push myself to go earlier if that's how everyone else goes.
