152  DAMZEL IN DISTRESS.. please help with my collection.....!! Lou xxxx in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by loukr on: January 20, 2007 08:39:56 AM
Okay, I posted a question similar to this a few weeks ago about a collection I have to design and make at college, as my final major project.

I now know what I want to make, or have a slight idea, but I have to fill up an A2 sketchbook with research, samples etc etc on my chosen theme, however... as of yet, I don't actually have a theme..!

My ideas so far are, loosely fitting dresses with different length skirts, made out of chiffon or a similar sheer fabric, in bright colours (similar to those found on tropical fish etc, the colour blends too), the dreses will be shaped using ribbon or ropey stuff to hold them up... see the picture to kind of get an idea of what I mean...! this dress is by donatella versace, and used in beyonce's crazy in love video...

basically it's the band/ribbon/rope that structures the dress, and the loose bits drape really nicely!

The dresses will be worn with black or coloured cut-off tights, heels and lots of dangly jewellry that I might make myself.

Does anybody know any areas of art/design/fashion/culture etc etc, that I can research to get more inspiration for these designs??

OR does anybody know a theme to base these outfits on, or what I can call my collection??

I'm so unbelivably stuck with this I have no idea!!

Any help, even if it seems WAY off mark, would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks..!  Grin Lou xx

153  can anybody help me analyse this cavalli dress.. pretty please!!?? in Designer Clothing Homage by loukr on: January 14, 2007 06:15:47 AM
so I have two descriptions of this dress, the site you can buy it off, says it's silk, and the runway review says it's chiffon... can anybody identify which??

The bottom is chiffon right... or not?? I don't know, but the top looks abit different, even thicker so makbe it's made out of both.. silk for the top, and chiffon for the bottom??? AARRGHHH!

Also, can anybody help me analyse it? Sure, I guess it has been draped when making it, and it has LOTS of pretty gathering (how is this done??), Chilan - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=108480.0 thinks the top of the dress is made from several parts

At any rate... The closer I examine this dress, the easier I think that it will be.  The top seems to be several parts that are hidden with the belt in a way that it looks like one piece.  The bust is one piece, there sides of the middrift are two pieces, and then there is the back.  I guess depending on how far you want to take it, you could break it down even more...

I think she's right, and also that the back is either one or two pieces, that are attached at the side of the bottom two pieces of the front (top)... make sense??
Also, it has been died... gradient?? (pretty colours Cheesy). The skirt has been draped on the bias, so it has that lovely flow, and also it kind of a handkerchief hem... it's definately only one piece of fabric, that meets in the middle at the front...
Have I missed anything???

Thanx Cheesy Lou xx

155  Re: anyone out there do scanner art? in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by loukr on: December 17, 2006 12:52:54 PM
haha! lol this is what I did with it,

for some reason DeviantArt is playing up, don't know if it's just mine... If you do it with a photocopier you have to get very close, otherwise it doesnt work and you get a blank page. It's so funny trying to do it quickly without your teachers walking around the corner!!

as far as the health thing goes... I just got blurred vision for about 10 seconds arterwards... and a green line in my sight for about an hour... (hehe) but after that I was fine!! Lou xx

157  Re: end of year Fashion Show collection-theme..? Any ideas? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by loukr on: December 16, 2006 03:13:36 PM
oh my god the labrynth.. I'll most definately look into that  Grin Grin

I craft, mainly art, with mixed media, I'm really getting into graphic design recently, with vector and stuff (although I'm not very good at the moment!). I read really girly books like the shopaholic series by sophie kinsella... (yes.. very sad I need to get into proper books!). I'm into to film and TV, so any ideas for that would be good. I LOVE Haute Couture dresses, and I'd LOVE to do a haute couture collection, but my skills just aren't good enough to do that.

I want to do something very contemporary, here are some designs I came up with when I was on holiday in the summer, excuse my illustration technique.. I only had colouring pencils.. stolen off of my little sister  Grin hehe:

I'd love to use these designs or similar, like interpret other ideas into them but I have no theme in them that I can see...

and yes uzurvoice, I will be postine the pics as soon as everything is made, will probably be in june though, so keep an eye out Cheesy also I will be posting my 1920s project in completed projects when I get it back in january!!

158  Re: making and attaching a hood to a jacket in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by loukr on: December 14, 2006 04:43:59 PM
hi paroper, thank you for all your help, I had to figure the hood out myself last night as I didn't read your reply until now, but thank you so much I will definately be referring to your instructions in the future Cheesy as for the fitting, it was only pinned and will not be so tight when it's on! but again thanks for the information, it will be very useful in the near future.. (this was my first time making sleeves..!)

here's how my outfit turned out.

I'm only wearing the jacket for a fashion show in June so the fit isn't important Cheesy.

Thanks for all your help. Lou x

159  making and attaching a hood to a jacket in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by loukr on: December 13, 2006 09:38:02 AM
Hi, I'm currently making a short jacket out of fur and would like to add a wide hood for show. does anybody have any idea how to make one to the pattern I've used and how to attatch it??

here's the lining so you get a basic understanding of the jacket..

this is the back.. it won't really look this bad honest!  lol.

this is the front, the black doesnt exactly show where everything is, but basically I want the hood to be wide so it looks abit like a collar at the front, going into a hood at the back.. get me?! hehe...

thanx Cheesy xx
