Lovesclutter, draping is the MOST fun ever! I was taught during my fashion years at college and it just.. stuck!

Hazelhoneylove, I'd love to see your vest Cheesy

dewshinesdopp - cannot wait to see you start on your corset! I can't wait to start on mine either! I've secured a photoshoot with an awesome photographer and I need 3 dresses by the end on may.. EEK!

Here's the other dress so far. It's funny, when I started, it didn't really fit me (too small!), but the more stitches I put in, the smaller it got and as I'm losing weight, it's like I'm shrinking with the dress :/ looool Anyway, here! It still needs a bunch of roses Smiley

12  Tea stained lace atlas dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by loukr on: May 14, 2012 02:11:20 PM
New dress finished this afternoon Smiley The bodice is a super cool antique style atlas fabric that I picked up at my local fabric store and never found a decent project for (apart from a tote which is floating around on here somewhere) and the skirt is a nice weight cotton with lace, all tea stained and lovely, that I picked up months ago! It's a wrap around style so no need to fuss with buttons or zips - WIN! Cheesy

Hey folks, me again! The lemon bleach thing didn't work.. it still black and DARK! It's acetate velvet.. maybe the colour won't budge Sad

Anyway, whilst I'm working on the roses of my other dress at home and by hand, I've picked up where I left off on another dress from WAY back in this thread, here's the last time we saw it:

And this is the progress I've made today:

Granted, it's not the most amaaaazing transformation so far, but this one went away in a bag because I felt it was getting uglier by the stitch, but now Ive got it out again I'm looking at it in a whole new light!

I've got the remains of a white cotton skirt lining and some lace having a bath in my washing up bowl at the moment surrounded by tea, this will create a petticoat type underskirt to help with that gaping hole at the front to create a bit more dignity for the wearer! The zip has been an issue with this dress ever since I put the damn thing in, so I may have to re-think the opening of it but hey - that's what's great about this style! Mistakes become a BIG part Cheesy:D:D

So far so good, I still need to blend the bodice into the skirt as it looks too blockey right now but it looks so much better than before - I think!

Heeyyyyyy I'm so glad you love everything! I know your package is VERY leather orientated, so I'd just like to clarify that I only use rescued leather and won't buy new! this swap was SO much fun to participate in, I'll definitely keep an eye out for the next one! MoonlitSun, you've been the best partner ♥

Here are some more piccies of the book, pouch and necklace Cheesy Ooh, and the felt butterfly was laser-cut by bekibutton for me, I added the brooch back! I have one myself, they look cute on bags Cheesy

Necklace - MoonlitSun prefers shorted necklaces so I've made it adjustable length, she can have it long or short if she likes!

The pouch (my sewing machine does NOT like leather!):

The boooooookywooky!

Back with more progress shots! To answer the questions from before, I didn't particularly make it for me, I just.. wanted to make it, and I did start with a garment that barely fit anyway so I guess it was always going to shrink and fit someone smaller! HOWEVER, I tried it on again today and.. it fits! It's snug, but it FITS! So I'm happy!

Here are my piccies from today, not a lot but I will be working on more tomorrow.

First up, I cut in the button holes so it does up properly

Decided I didn't like the darker buttons so swapped them to match the dress colours!

Me, in it, with it done up!

AAAAaaannndddd the new additions.. I played around with making corset type lines with bias binding and ribbons but took it all off as it looked too structured. Have settled for these awesome roses, got lots more to add tomorrow, not sure whether to keep it minimak or not..!

Cheesy

I know what you all mean about not being able to resist opening a package! when mine arrived I literally totally stopped packaging moonlitsun's package up just so I could open the one she sent me! Cheesy I always say that I won't open a package if it arrives before I've sent mine but it never happens!

PS, here's a teaser for moonlitsun Cheesy

When it arrives I've numbered the packages, make sure you open the note first Cheesy

WWWWOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWW So just as I'm putting the finishing touches to Moonlitsun's package, the postman comes along and distracts me because MY PACKAGE ALL THE WAY FROM MAURITIUS ARRIVED!!

Everything is so so so amazing I love it all!
Firstly, I opened the envelope and it was full of awesome fabric and paper autumn leaves! I'm going to use the fabric ones on a cool dress I think!! Cheesy

Behold the awesomeness:
contents

cute note and cool paper/stickers/coin buttons (these will look awesome in jewellery!)

Quickly editing post to add this, it made me giggle Cheesy

A Navi keychain, I love how her wings light up in the light so she's going to hang in my window Cheesy

A lonlon milk jug! Moonlitsun was so funny, she told me about this via PM, saying she didn't want to fill it up in case the mailman couldn't read hyrulian and thought we were smuggling something naughty! I love it! Cheesy

Some super-cute triforce and heart earrings Smiley

And just how cool are these? I've wanted some for AGES but I'm hopeless at crochet.. actually, the only thing I can crochet is my hair and that's always by accident (I'm weird - I know!) They have a triforce-y pattern in them Cheesy:D
Apologies for my feet, it's like winter in the UK right now so I literally whipped my boots and socks off to put these on!

Awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome! Thank you so so much Moonlitsun I've loved having you as a partner!!!  I'm mailing your package this afternoon so hopefully it arrives as quickly as mine did!!

Cannot wait to see everyone elses goodies!! ♥

Thanks guyssss! I think the machine part is done for now.. maybe! I might add a few more strips on the bodice here & there but the skirt is DONE - HORRAY!!
BirdBones - There'll be no action shots from me anytime soon, scroll down to see why! But my little sister should fit into it so I'll nab her for a photoshoot once it's done Cheesy We shot some stuff with the dress cassadee made for me and she looked so cute in it!

Here's the skirt done done done:

And here's why there will be no shots of me in it! (unless I get a breast reduction asap!)

haha! Looks good from the side though Cheesy

MOOOOOOOOOOORE PROGRESS SHOTS! This is what I've done this morning Cheesy
I need to add some shorter bias bits on one side, and I've been adding strips to even out the bodice Smiley

EDITING TO ADD MORE PHOTOS!
(I've done a bit more since posting earlier today! I've put more skinny strips down on the bodice (lots more to go though) and added more bias bits around the waistline (again, more to go!) And I've added matching fabric to the straps which pulls the whole thing together a lot more! I'm hoping to get all the machine sewing done today so that tomorrow I can sit out in the garden in the beautiful sunshine we've got here in the UK (for a change) with a needle, thread and bits and pieces to hand sew on!

The whole thing

More progress shots! Today I've been adding a bit more oomph to the skirt part! The back right portion was missing some base layers and the mosquito net was poking through so I hoiked up the fabrics and tacked some fabric down to cover it! This was fun to get under the needle of my machine.. NOT! The needle kept picking at the net.. dammit! Looks better now though!

I've also covered up the dark bit at the front - it just didn't look right

I still need to add a few bias bits around the waistline to keep it consistent but I'm really happy with how it's looking so far - even if it has now shrunk even more!

Birdbones, I couldn't figure out which bit at the back you meant? I still need to add more to the waistline so perhaps I'll cover it without even noticing it was the bit you're talking about! Cheesy
Hey, don't you just love it when you find the perfect garment for yourself at the thrift store! keep going back though - you're bound to pick up the perfect pase garment soon ehough! Alternatively if you have any dressmaking patterns you could knock one up quickly? It wouldn't need to be neatly finished or anything since you'll be covering it with goodies anyway Cheesy

Really looking forward to seeing other peoples pieces! Cheesy
