1  Beetle earrings (based off of Moonrise Kingdom) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Gwynevere on: June 16, 2013 07:54:04 AM
My boyfriend and I rented the movie "Moonrise Kingdom" a few months ago, and since then I've been scouring town for a pair of plastic beetles to recreate a pair seen in the movie (for reference, a boy and girl run away together, and at one point he gives her a pair of earrings made from beetles and fish hooks).

Here's my attempt:

The beetles (which were originally lady bugs- the place I got them from only had one beetle on hand!) came from an educational toy store, after scouring the dollar store and party city. I painted them with a metallic acrylic paint, mixed with other colors to get the right shade, then coated with a layer of clear protective finish. I nailed a hole through their poor little heads (thankfully not too squeamish lol), and then used jump rings to attach to the earring.

Not bad for 30 minutes work all told (and endless beetle-searching lol).

2  Re: ACTIVE: Granny-A-Day for JUNE - 6/1/10-6/30/10 in Crochetalongs by Gwynevere on: June 30, 2010 07:23:08 PM
June:

I'm officially naming it the Rainbow Bright Afghan, as it's basically a way to use up some of the crazy colored yarn I have. Sadly, only 13 of them are currently completely finished with the ends woven in. That'll be the next job to do.

I'm also thinking I'm going to need a few more to make an afghan the size I want (since I only did four rounds each on these). Probably 7x7 or 7x8 or so. Another month? Perhaps.

Here they are:

All lined up on my bed, as of Friday evening.

The ones I made over the weekend. (I went home over the weekend, and discovered I had a lovely skein of rainbow colored yarn which I love but clashes with...a lot of things. And the hot pink yarn I for some reason needed. Alas, the problems of seeing color before pattern/usefulness. A good use of my stash of acrylic yarn, though.)

I think I need to start weaving in my ends...

5  Feed the FUZE! (may be slightly pic heavy) in Completed Projects by Gwynevere on: November 06, 2007 01:25:08 PM
Cheesy So, I was bored. And I had an empty fuse bottle. And some change.

All in all, it took me like 15 minutes maybe.

Why feed the fuze? Because the fuze wants money. Oh, yeah.

6  Another Amineko (warning: pictures of cuteness) in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Gwynevere on: January 26, 2007 07:29:59 PM
So, this afternoon I finally got off my butt and embroidered the face on my amineko that has been pretty much done since august but didn't have a face or an attached head Cheesy So here it is:

Gurke the Amineko (Gurke is german for cucumber, although I was actually thinking of a book character when I named her). She has a scarf, a backpack, and a little pink teddy bear!
Another pic:

I thought it would be fun to imitate the picture with the dogs playing poker, but I don't have the props for that. The nose didn't turn out quite right, but I like her loads more than I did before- the face just adds so much character!

7  indestructible cat toys? in Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions by Gwynevere on: January 01, 2007 06:03:36 PM
I'm looking for ideas on what to make cat toys out of/ how to make cat toys that are durable enough for my kitty (my sisters cat, but anyway...)

She's a six month old kitten that likes to chew on things, like these toy mice:

As you might be able to tell, the tail is about an inch or so shorter than it was when she got it... Shocked The thing is, I have no idea what happened to it... Huh Anyone have any ideas?
