11  This one's so bright, ya gotta have shades in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: April 15, 2012 09:22:06 AM
I bought this material th' other day, because I believed it would look good in a bag for my daughter.  I tried to find a similar, but separate, material for the band & handles. My "fabric lady" said this striped one was made to go with it. I thought it was kinda loud, but, the band &handles aren't very big. Besides, I wouldn't have to look at it real often, anyway. My dear daughter would like it.
( get your sunglasses  Wink )

And, the inside …

So, there it is. My daughter's new bag. I think she'll like it.

Whaddaya think, Craftsters & guests?

12  H-a-B-L has "Bag Envy" in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: April 14, 2012 07:09:30 AM
Smiley Yup; it happens to the best of us, and the not-so-great of us.

I offered to make Mum a Kwik-Sew #3526.  A nice-sized, nice-looking bag. Just for a day-bag, tote-bag, or grocery bag …… whichever she chooses.

So, off to the shop named "Fabrications" we go. She knew what it would look like once done. She just had to choose which fabrics she wanted it out of.

She started with a medium-sized Dogwood-flower print on a black background.  Then thought maybe some other print. Maybe this or that. It was a fabric store. I had no rush to be anywhere else.
Eventually, she settled on a wildlife print. Now, the band & handles fabric: dark brown? How about a green (or not), what about a tan vine-print? Great!

Here's the end result of an hour's hunt for "just the right one".

Yup: definite "Bag Envy".

What do you think, Craftsters & guests? Worthy of "Bag Envy"?

13  Re: My Mediocre bag. (KS 3749) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: April 10, 2012 04:35:49 PM
Thank you, Alexus1325.
Mum really likes it as well.
Pinky-Mauve just doesn't do it for me.
(But, for a Kwik Sew 3749 pattern, it's one of the best I've done.)

This (black and white) one is my favourite

14  My Mediocre bag. (KS 3749) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: April 09, 2012 01:53:58 PM
It surprises me th't fabric choices alone can make such a difference in any pattern.

Whereas this pattern made the terrific bag posted couple days ago,

it also has made this bag.……

And,  here's the interior:

I do remember that I'd bought it for this particular pattern. I had higher expectations for this one than how it has turned out. I knew it wasn't going to come near the black-and-white one, but I have to admit, I did expect it to look better th'n this

Maybe, th' issue isn't the appearance of the bag, but the difficulties I experienced while making it. That's a definite possibility. Skipped stitches,  loopy bobbin threads, different types of fabrics (Cotton & Poly: don't look too awful t'gether, but aren't terrific.) It is possible I'm charging the bag with the difficulties making it. But, it still doesn't thrill me.

What do you think Craftsters? Am I being too harsh with th's bag? Or is it actually okay?

15  My stunning bag (KS 3749) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: April 04, 2012 11:45:53 PM
I " found" some fabric in my stash. It must be fairly well-aged, because it's another I have forgotten what I bought it for. Huh

It's a nice print: cranes & clouds on a black background. I bought a white Vine print for th' band. I also found some black broadcloth for th' slide panels and handles.

I made Kwik Sew #3749 out of it.

I figured it would be stunning, but it surpassed even my expectations.
l

And the interior:

It took me longer th'n I expected. Mainly because I made an error. I forgot that there's a side panel inside as well.  Undecided  So, after sewing the interior together incorrectly, I had to rip it apart and add the side panel (which I'd even forgotten to cut out ……  Tongue)

But, it did (finally) turn out more stunning th'n I expected.

What do you think Craftsters & guests? Am I over-estimating it, or is it okay?

16  My Newest bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: March 27, 2012 10:19:25 PM
I was at a fundraising book-sale recently. There were some pretty bags for sale. They had pretty prints, weren't enormous, and weren't badly priced …… until you handled th'm Tongue Then you decided they were overpriced. (The cheapest hotel you've ever stayed in didn't have sheets that cheap feeling.)

So, I decided to make my own.

I used Kwik-Sew #3526. Cotton outers, unbleached cotton lining.

in this pic, it's only half done.

This is the pocket inside out of a scrap of th' band/handle material.

Here it is, nearly done.

And the bow!

I'm seriously pleased with it. I had a couple qualms about it being "too Old-lady like", but, decided it is just a pretty bag.

What do you think, Craftsters & guests? Feedback of any sort (positive or negative) would be appreciated. Thanks.

17  Some Bags for a really old friend in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: June 21, 2011 05:27:57 PM
Actually, he's not "really old", he's a friend of long standing. He and I have been friends for over 3 decades. (It sounds longer, saying it that way, than saying over 30 years...  Grin I'm strange.)

Anyway, He is a singer/songwriter. Has always had an interest in music. So, when I found this musical note fabric in my stash (I didn't even remember buying it, never mind what the heck I bought it for) I decided that it would make terrific shopping bags.

This one was Kwik Sew 3526, If I remember correctly.

I've forgot ... Kwik Sew 3749.

I gave them to ... him at his office (I'm a chicken Undecided) So, I don't know what he thinks of them....

What do you think, Craftsters and guests?

M'Kay, this is the bag, open, with the computer laying on the flap.

Me, with the bag over my body, (please ignore the unmade bed in the background)

The bag, closed, with little to define it: That's the handle that's black laying over it.

20  New Computer-New Bag! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hat-and-bag-lady on: May 02, 2011 05:28:29 PM
My husband bought me a new Sony Vaio laptop for our anniversary. Being a seamster, I decided it needed a bag.

I like Kwik-Sew 3133: Bag C: Messenger- style bag, but it's a touch too narrow for a laptop. Being a Craftster, I decided I could widen it.

I re-did the pattern & added 2.5 cm (that's 1" to the old-school seamstresses)

It turned out terrific.

I shall attempt to attach photos (again: 3rd time: maybe it is the charm?)

*sigh* Out of battery: sorry. Try again another time.
