3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Strapless Dresses from random duvet cover & ugly retro curtains! on: March 21, 2007 02:34:41 PM
Hi, these are the first and second items of clothing I have made! I hope you like them!

This first one is made from a duvet cover

It's a bit... different... lol... and I still have about two and a half duvets left in this fabric.

and this second dress is made from some ugly retro curtains, and I have about 8 of these left. I added the white belt part under the bust as it was very shapeless before Undecided

It's navy, but the picture is a bit dark as unfortunately I had to use my camera phone. The coloured shapes are very brightly coloured.

Here is a close-up of the fabric, but still doesn't really show the brightness, but you can see the polka dots:

I think in total they must have cost about 30 pence each! They are so easy to make I can tell I will end up with one in every pattern and colour!

Comments and criticisms will be very gratefully accepted!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Making the top of a dress smaller? Trying to make a pinafore... HELP! on: March 21, 2007 09:45:55 AM
Hi, I am a real sewing newbie and I would really appreciate some help?

So far, I have only made a dress/top like this:

Which is basically just a tube with elastic at the top to draw it together and keep it up.

Now... what i want to do is take a tube like this but make it into a pinafore... how can I draw it together at the top to make it fit at the bust without the elastic? I've never tried darts or anything so I really don't have a clue what I'm doing,  Grin Then all I need to do is add straps.

Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

P.s. Please be kind, this is the first clothing I have ever made and first item I have ever posted!
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Cropped Cardigans on: February 21, 2007 12:51:11 PM
Hey, I have searched and searched but what I am looking for is the pattern for a cute (but not too difficult) cropped cardigan, that buttons up, with long sleeves. I have searched on here and Knitting Pattern Central but can't find what I am looking for. I would prefer it if it were free, but would pay a reasonable amount.

PLEEEEEEASE can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks! x
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Pattern Sizings - please help me!:) on: January 31, 2007 05:12:30 AM
Hi, i really want to get this pattern:

http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5313.htm?tab=dresses&page=1

but I am a size 10-12 but it comes in 4-10 and 12+ does anyone have any advice on whether it would be better to buy the smaller pattern and make it bigger, or buy the bigger pattern and make it smaller?

Thanks for any replies!
7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Zip insertion on: January 12, 2007 09:16:34 AM
Hi, I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, sorry if I haven't, but...

I am looking to buy myself a sewing machine. Is it important to have a zip insertion function?

Thank you  Smiley
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Help for a Christmas Present - T-shirt for the bf! on: December 11, 2006 04:59:16 AM
Hi! I really hope that you guys can help me with this and I hope that this is the right board. Sorry if it's not!

I have seen this t-shirt:

http://www.truffleshuffle.co.uk/store/product_info.php?cPath=162_164&products_id=529

Although I could just buy it, for some reason, although I'm not very good at art, I've got it into my head I would like to try to make one. I'm going to head out tomorrow for some green t-shirts, but what is the best way for me to do this? I'm thinking probably not transfer paper as I can't get a good picture of the players anyway.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  Smiley
