31  quilt + pillow = quillow in Quilting: Completed Projects by greeneggsandham on: September 12, 2007 11:38:35 PM
When my daughter was a baby, my mom made her a 'quillow', which is a quilt which can be folded up into a pillow (or a pillow which can be unfolded into a quilt Wink).  Recently I found a tutorial, so I whipped this up in a day!!! - thanks to all the machine quilting practice I got on my 9-patch that I posted a while ago. Tongue

Here is the pillow all folded neatly

The central panel is scotty dog fabric, with two borders, one plain green, one striped.  Here is a detail of some quilting on the pillow, meandering around the little pooches

and here is a closer-up of the borders

This is kind of looking into the pillow

Now it is being unfolded

completely unfolded and held out

The pillow part has two sides.  One side has green border fabric, and shows when it is folded up into a pillow.  the other side has purple border fabric and shows when it is unfolded into a quilt

The quilt front is black fabric with white dog footprints, the quilt back is black, grey and white sort of checked.  the binding is purple with white scotty sillouettes.

I think it turned out cute - I hope you like it.

32  Heart brooch plus some canes in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by greeneggsandham on: September 12, 2007 11:24:53 PM
Well I have been playing with polymer clay for a few weeks now, only just managed to take pix of some of the stuff I have done.  My canes seem to be getting worse instead of better - maybe I am getting complacent.
Anyway, one of my favourites is this heart with wings, which was one of the first things I did.  I attached a brooch clip to the back and I wear it almost every day

Here are some canes I made recently.  The best is bad batz Maru

Plus some golden bling

ON the weekend I did this little fishbowl, but it didn't turn out too good

and this castle, which I have been planning to do for ages, but again it is too distorted  Cry

Anyhoodle, hope you enjoy the pix.  Feedback really welcome.

33  Jewellery display in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by greeneggsandham on: September 12, 2007 11:14:47 PM
Inspired, as usual, by a post on Craftster, I made a jewelery holder for my daughter.  Got an old picture frame and decoupaged it with old stamps.  then I took some rickrack and some fabric scraps and attached them across the frame.  I also added some hook eyes and some buttons to hang earrings and stuff on.

Then I glued toy soldiers to the top

Then I screwed some hooks along the bottom for strings of beads and necklaces.

I like it, hope you do to.  I'll try to find the inspirational post and put on a link to it.

34  glass marble brooches in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by greeneggsandham on: September 12, 2007 11:10:40 PM
I was inspired by a post on craftster, but I haven't been able to locate it.  IN the local $2 shop they sell glass marbles for fish tanks or flower arranging. They come in a bag of about 30 for $2.  I have been cutting out pictures from books or fabric catalogues and sticking them on the back using mod podge.  Then I glue on a brooch pin and bob is your proverbial uncle.

Okay, thats plenty.  I have done about 50 of them, but can't bore you with them all.

35  cosmetic bags - img heavy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by greeneggsandham on: September 12, 2007 10:45:10 PM
Using the tutorial by queenofdiy, which is here;

I have been madly sewing these gorgeous cosmetic bags.  The tutorial is a real dream - it makes neat zippers possible even for klutzes like me.  The first one I made is in pink fabric

and it has striped lining

The next one I made for my daughter and she chose the fabrics.  It is a zebra stripe and the lining is maroon-y red

I also made one for her friend using keyboard fabric with a colourful polka dot lining, but I haven't got a photo of it. Since then I have been going insane in the membrane with this pattern.  Little prancing kitties

A nice harvest fabric

with the same maroon lining.

Hope you enjoy the pics, and thanks again to the Queen of DIY

36  Rich coloured 9-patch quilt - just 3 years overdue in Quilting: Completed Projects by greeneggsandham on: September 02, 2007 11:10:27 PM
Last week I finished a quilt I have been working on for some time.  I promised it to my brother for his wedding, which was over 3 years ago.  I bought all the fabric, but didn't start it until late last year.  I had to leave it for a while because of other commitments, but finally finished it last week.  (yay!)  It is based on a Kaffe Fasset design.  I call it 'sitting in a tree...' because it is a wedding (now anniversary) present and it is rich green, red and gold colours.  The quilting is stipple/meander quilting, with a 'waves' border.  I had to learn machine quilting as I went, so I started adding some fancy patterns towards the end.  The binding is not very clear - it is musical bars/notes, which is because my brother and his wife are both musicians.  Comments, feedback would be welcome!
Here is the quilt

This is a close-up

and here is a detail of the quilting

The colours look a bit washed out in the pictures - they are very rich in real life.  Hope you like...
