1  Re: Fill A Mug Swap Round 3 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by gerrijo on: February 06, 2009 09:01:11 AM
So I guess my partner never received  Undecided  but barbalot said I should post pics of what I sent anyway.

I didn't get pictures of everything and I handspun some yarn for my partner from coffee dyed roving which I can't find a picture of the finish object but here it is in it's dye bath.  It also had some swirls of dark brown and raspberry merino, thick thin and about 100 yards.  It was my medium sized project.  And it smelled like heaven after it was finished!  Hopefully I can find a finished pic somewhere  Huh

This was straight from her wists and it the chemical symbol for caffeine.  I made it from Shrinky and strung it on a SS chain.  This I was really proud of since it took a long time to cut all those two holes in the middle

This was also from her wists, a small bottle top pincushion and I made it into a cup-o-cocoa (also in one of her favorite colors)

And then I made her a to-go cozy with buttons (She loves a buttons!)

I didn't get all the goodies in a picture since I thought that she would be able to take one.  But I send her along a coffee mug from a local artist.  It had this beautiful deep brown glaze on it and was perfect for a cup of tea.  I also sent her her favorite cocoa (land-o-lakes mint chocolate) and a couple of sweets.  And I found some amazing loose-leaf teas at our local co-op so I sent her a variety.

Well, hopefully one day she still receives it - I would be just so bummed that I work on all of it for nothing.

2  Mums me crazy! (aka my first skirt!) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gerrijo on: November 09, 2008 08:08:38 PM
I recently swapped for the book Sew What! Skirts and this is my first creation using the instructions!  It is the fitted top A-line skirt with a zipper.  I used some remnant fabric from Joann that I got for $2 (gotta love crazy chrysanthemum fabric) and the best part it that it only took my two hours this afternoon to make.

Side view

I think it seems like a flattering skirt (I am open to hearing if it's not since I wouldn't want to make fifty of them only to know I look horrible in it  Tongue ) - comments and critiques are welcome!

You all inspire me so much!  I would take up most of this thread going on just about the yarns posted - so lets just say I love it all so far.

Here are mine for the week - the 3rd and 4th yarns from my spinning class - I am slowly but surely getting better!

Merino, corridale, tencel, firestar, and BFL all crazy in the mix = Turning of the Leaves

This was my first plying on the wheel, not super pretty but REALLY soft.  Merino and tencel = Royal Pain (as in what a royal PITA this was for me to ply  Grin )

Love Cherry Lime Swirl - reminds me of a slushie  Cheesy

I don't have the prettiest thing to show this week, but an accomplishment none-the-less: my first yarn spun on a wheel!

I am taking a spinning class right now and this was my first attempt, 90 yards of corridale - horribly uneven.  But I love spinning on a wheel, I just have to save up enough to get one  Tongue

5  Totoro barrette/hair clip (aka my new favorite thing in life!) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by gerrijo on: October 06, 2008 06:31:50 PM
Okay - I am about to be known as that girl who wears the Totoro barrette all the time.

Oh well, I'm over it.

This is what took up my rainy day Sunday - made out of felt with two beads for the eyes.

From the side:

I do hope this is the right area to post this - please forgive me if it isn't!!!

6  Baby Bunny Beer Cozy *EDIT - link to pattern added!* in Crochet: Completed Projects by gerrijo on: October 01, 2008 11:25:51 AM
So I had all intention of making this for the Craftster cozy contest but I got distracted and didn't finish in time.  But I am glad I finished him anyway, I love him!

Of course he can be used for soda but it makes me laugh drinking adult beverages out something so sweet and innocent looking  Grin

He even has a cotton tail in the back

Comment or critiques are always welcome!

*****************EDIT******************

Thanks for all the wonderful comments!!

I have posted the pattern to my blog:

http://gerrijo.blogspot.com/2008/10/pattern-for-bunny-beer-cozy.html

Please let me know if there seems to be any mistakes - it is my first time writing a pattern and I have no idea what I am doing.

Also, I would LOVE to see anyone cozy if they make one!!

Wow, what a beautiful start to FF everyone!!  I am drop-dead-in-love with jeweled toad noodle princess, I just want to grab into my computer and smoosh it.

Here is my contribution for this week.  It is 80 yards merino/firestar, thick and thin.  I am spinning it's fraternal twin next week that has more purple and taupe and less of the chartreuse.

I call it Mustard and Grape Sandwich:

8  Would any lovely craftsters be able to identify this wheel for me? in Spinning: Discussion and Questions by gerrijo on: September 22, 2008 04:04:19 PM

I know it is super old wheel and the picture isn't great

But would it be worth it to buy for $30 and would it be a bad idea for a beginner to try to take a spin on it (having never used a wheel before, just a drop spindle)Huh  The person selling it says it still spins but I have yet to see it in person.

I would appreciate ANY help!!

Love that second coil yarn isamax - that silver sparkle is awesome.  And I am drooling over your batts cloudlover!

I haven't spun any yarn in the past couple of weeks but got a bug up my bum and turned out 146 yards total of Corridale that I dyed with grape and cherry kool aide.  I call it Razzle Berry

Then I used it to make me my new winter hat!  It is really, really warm which is perfect considering they are calling for this winter to be the coldest winter in years  Tongue

10  *meow meow* kitty kat hat in Crochet: Completed Projects by gerrijo on: September 18, 2008 12:20:49 PM
This is my first full project using yarn I spun myself.  I even dyed the roving too so I can officially say this hat is hand made from start to finish.  Felt added for the eyes and ears.  I used hdc I used this pattern as a basis: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=136109.0

Sorry for the entirely goofy picture, I was having the worst time trying to hold the camera and get the hat in  Grin

thank you for looking!
