1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Free form knitting? on: September 27, 2006 09:25:32 AM
You're welcome Smiley.

I freeform knit (rather than crochet) and it works fine.  To tell you the truth though, I've never done circles.  I'm sure it can be done though.

However, you could do some sort of crochet knitting hybrid, I think that'd be cool!

I'd get three, because then you can make the leg a little longer if yo want.

I'd also get some reinforcing thread since that particular wool isn't made for socks (has no nylon in it) and the heel/toe will probably wear out at some point.

Also, be careful to handwash those when you're done!  It'd be a shame to have them all felt up Smiley.

The rule: no rules Wink.

Pick up some yarn and some needles and begin.  I start with generally only a vague idea in my head of what the thing is going to look like - sometimes it's just nothing.  I'm just knitting for the sake of knitting.

I actually wrote an article about this just the other week, you can read  it here.

I also posted some links with photos and how-to's here.

I LOVE your idea taped_on_wings.

I've been toying with the idea of doing some freeform "painting" with yarn as well, but I have yet to actually begin it.

I can't wait to see your photos!
5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: New Book Coming called Spin to Knit on: August 27, 2006 10:39:53 AM
I can't wait to get that book!

I participated in the "one skein" exchange that's just ended, also run by interweave press, I had a lot of fun and it was run very well so I'm sure this one will be run just as well!

Unfortunately I don't know if I'll be able to participate if I don't sort out a wheel for myself by that time (drop spindles are SO much more time consuming!!).

Thanks so much diosaperdida Smiley

I do believe I know specifically which sites you're talking about, and I love MostlyHarmless' quote pertaining to that.  I think it's very apt Smiley.

PS - diosaperdida, I love your artwork!

Thanks..I read so much negative feedback on knitters who try to be creative...that I am sometimes hesitant to share my ideas.

I cannot imagine WHY anybody would ever dole out negative feedback on creativity - no matter on whether it's with yarn and needles or paint and brush, or [insert other form here].  Those people need a smack upside the head Wink.

Very cool, I love hearing that other people are into this Smiley.

Diosperdida - that's a great idea!

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: I can't make sense out of this pattern on: August 24, 2006 07:12:56 PM
I guess I'll jump in then and give it a go, even if it scares me lol. I suppose the worst that happens is that I have to frog and start over

Exactly Wink.
