11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Learning Silversmithing, First Few Pieces! on: April 22, 2009 11:58:33 AM
Thanks, guys!!!  Mouseatethekitty, I use really really really teensy pieces of sheet solder, I think the trick is to use as little as possible then file away the excess. But filing is almost impossible if you're working with thin wire!
I have my class tonight so I'm going to ask my teacher about the liver of sulphur.  If I get a good answer I'll post it here!

Whats up, Craftster!? I haven't posted in ages, but I'm learning a new skill so I thought I'd put a few of my latest pieces up.  I'm taking a silversmithing class . . . last week we learned to solder.  I made these pieces at home from sterling silver wire using my soldering torch.  The oxidized pieces were blackened w/ liver of sulphur.

Oxidized Sterling Wire Knots (a royal pain to make! The wire is so thin I melted it entirely a few times and had to start over)

Oxidized Sterling and Iolite

Oxidized Sterling and Quartz Crystal Briolettes

Polished Sterling and Freshwater Pearls

I'd love to know what you think! (And if anyone knows why liver of sulphur isn't completely blackening my solder joints, PLEASE tell me! Its driving me nuts!)

Congrats on the Craftster order, IamSusie . . . your pouches look awesome!  Congrats on your Feb. sales, Modus . . . Feb. has been realllyyyyy sllllowwww for me, but I think I'm not listing as much as I should be (still feeling burnt out from the holidays and I leave for my wedding in 3 weeks so I've been a little preoccupied!)

I decided to rename my shop months ago and finally, last night, I redid my banner and designed and ordered new business cards.  I'll be going by Relic now instead of Mixtape . . . my url will, as always, be hollylynne.etsy.com.  Stop by and let me know what you think of the banner! I'm pretty proud of it, considering my limited photoshop skills.  The cards look AMAZING but I still have to do a few adjustments for the printer.

I'm sitting on 699 sales right now . . . I'm hoping for one more soon Cheesy
17  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Favors for a very small Welsh wedding on: January 27, 2009 10:51:24 AM
Thanks guys! We're really excited Smiley Having such a small wedding means I don't get to do a lot of the crafty things I would do if we were having more guests (like flowers, invites, etc.) . . . but I'm glad I got to hand make something for the occasion! Smiley
18  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Favors for a very small Welsh wedding on: January 25, 2009 08:05:00 PM
My fiance and I are getting married on March 10th at Conwy Castle in North Wales (http://www.conwy.com/).  We're only bringing our immediate family with us, so I was able to go all out on the favors!

I'm giving each of the girls a sterling castle necklace, purchased from Western Mountain Company on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5066147)

Since we'll have to fly in for the wedding, I didn't want to spend time wrapping the favors only to possibly have to unwrap them for customs, so I made coin purses to serve as wrapping and bonus favors. The fabrics I used are significant to where we're being married and the whole associated trip.  The fronts were taken from a tea towel printed with the British monarchy from William the Conquerer through modern times, the backs are Irish grown linen in a mustard yellow shade.  The lining is made up of one panel of plaid (for the honeymoon we'll be taking in Edinburgh) and one panel of a red brick print (for the time we'll all be spending at Hampton Court Palace prior to the wedding).

I'm really excited to give these!  Hope you guys like  Grin

I'm LOVING the Google Analytics.  The info is so interesting . . . and eventually, after I've had a chance to sit back and watch a bit, it will be really useful in terms of marketing and planning my designs as well.

Congrats on those 2000 hearts and the features, Barbalot. Thats awesome!

Bea, the hearts are adorable. I love how you've listed a bunch of uses in the description too . . . neat touch!

I'm plodding along with my shop right now . . .I've got a minor case of Etsy blahs at the moment. I worked my butt off over the holidays and I'm still recovering I think!  I have a huge stockpile of items to list (by "worked my butt off" over the holidays I think I mean more that I TOTALLY OVERDID IT! Smiley) and I'm getting them up sporadically.  I hope I settle into some kind of groove over the next few weeks.
