1  COOKING / Dessert / Guitar Hero Birthday Cake on: April 09, 2009 05:32:13 PM

My boyfriends 18th birthday was last month, and being a big guitar hero lover I decided to make him a GH Cake!

I started out by baking two slab cakes, I cut them and attempted to make the shape of the cake.

Once I had my shape down I used almost 2 pounds of buttercream frosting to frost that bad boy. The frosting I had was white and I didn't want to add food colouring to make it a dark colour so I added 2 tubs of betty crocker chocolate fudge icing to it. It tasted reallly good.

I used a straw covered in tin foil for the Whammy bar, and chocolate chips for the center thing that I don't know the name of. I dyed some frosting for the buttons and there you go.

Thanks for looking
2  COOKING / Dessert / Boston Cream Cupcakes on: April 09, 2009 05:12:19 PM

It's my boyfriend's fathers birthday tomorrow and I'm in charge of the desserts for any family functions, so I decided to try making Boston cream cupcakes.
The Boston cream pie and Boston cream donut is a fave around his household so I figured they would appreciate these.

They are really easy to make, all you do is get a regular cake mix, I used french vanilla. Make the cupcakes how it says on the mix, when they are cooked wait for them to cool completely. Take a piping bag and fill it with custard, if they don't sell it at your grocery store you can use vanilla pie filling. Poke holes in the cupcakes with a knife and put the piping bag tip in the cupcake, squeeze the custard in. You'll know when you have a good amount in, you can feel the cupcake expand and you'll know to stop squeezing. Originally I was going to heat up the icing and dip the cupcakes in so it would be smooth, but I thought it would be good to pipe the icing on top. I just used a can of chocolate fudge icing. Add some cherries and there you go Smiley!

p.s --I apologize in advance if I did this wrong, It's my first time posting and I sort of just guessed and hoped I was doing it right
