11  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / metaphor painting assignment on: January 31, 2006 08:59:18 PM
Hi. I am taking a university painting class and am stumped for my current assignment so I am asking for ideas. The assignement is to take an object and paint it ..to somehow change its properties. I chose an old helmet and my prof said to think of a metaphor and paint that. Well i cant think of anything. his example was to paint blisters on a shoe...does anyone have any ideas?

                  Garbage Guardian Angels

Well here is my entry, it was a lot of fun to make. I used basically anything I could find to make this. I didn't start with a theme in mind, but the theme of heaven and earth kind of developed as I went along. Here's what some things are made out of:
bunny- body is an old shell pendant, head is a button and ears are zipper pulls

sheep- body is old lego piece, head is a domino, ear is a pop tab, and wings are bits of mirror.

the king dude beside the sheep- body is one of those samples you get from a home improvement store for counter tops. head is this circle thing i found. Crown is the clip off my bookbag.

clouds - are made out of zippers off my duvet cover case.
the little angels on the one cloud came from inside of a snow globe.

The tree is made out of rope that I painted brown.

The sun is made out of one of those protector things found on deodarants and i covered it in bits of mirror and the rays of the sun are pop tabs

The angel in the top right corner has wings that are a protractor from a geometry kit.

the images i used in this project mostly came from http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/vintageresources.html

ok now pictures......

well thats it ..hope you liked it.

14  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / digital pics swap on: May 08, 2005 11:17:29 AM
so this is my idea for a swap..it would be over the net though, not by mail. my idea is we would take pictures of a certain theme  like say nature pics or pics of things of a certain colour and then swap them by email. then we could print them make collages or anything really (just something crafty) and then share the finished projects. I love taking photos and i think this could be really fun to look at other photos as well. The nature theme or the colour theme might be fun. am i making any sense. sorry if im not. anyways anyone else interested or have any ideas about a digital pics swap?

16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Heidi record sleeve purse on: March 07, 2005 05:18:24 PM
Hi I made a bag a while ago, first time too Cheesy... I got the inspiration from the Bambi record school tote on craftster. Anyways I made mine the same way and I really like it, only now I think I will make the strap shorter so It is a tote bag and not a messenger type bag.
The fabric I used on the outside is brown with stars from wal marts remenents bin and the lining is bright floral slippery material from a moo moo that I found. lol good times. I added a fabric flower to it and the front says Heidi and the back tells the story of Heidi. I got the record sleeve for free from value village because there was no record in it. score! And Thats my purse it would make more sense if my name was Heidi but I like it anyway.

here are the pics..

19  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Completed Projects / Roses silkscreen on: January 31, 2005 08:50:32 PM
well this is a project for my printmaking class in university and i am happy to say i am finally done after like 10 hours of working on it. It takes so long because you have to wait for the darn screen to dry and things dont always work the way you want...but here is the finished product.

20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Easter collage paper purse on: January 25, 2005 04:57:50 PM

I made a little easter purse/basket yesterday.  These are the kind of crafts i make when i am stuck in a little dorm room with nothing but my computer and a jar of modge podge and a free calander lol.
the form of the bag I made out of the calander..it was stiff cardboard and i cut it and stapled it into a purse shape then taped over the staples and the sides with packing tape. The handle is made out of stiff paper as well and has colourful strips in pastely colours from magagzines modge podged on. The pictures are all from the net and came from doing a search for vintage easter pics. I modge podged the whole thing and now its really stiff and will be dangling from my dorm door at easter time with a rabbit sticking out of it.
