11  play dress recon in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Mrsblocko on: April 05, 2008 08:12:22 AM
My friend gave me a play dress that her daughter had outgrown, but my kiddo's head was too big to get the darn thing on so I chopped it up and made it into a wrap skirt.  I used one of my husband's old ties for the ties.  I always forget to take a before picture.  here is the skirt:

12  little chicken cat toy (a tragedy) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Mrsblocko on: March 20, 2008 04:34:39 PM
I saw flossbox's tut on making little chickens.  (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=234484.0) I decided they would make neato cat toys.  So I made one from scraps from my stash and some catnip.  I double stitched all the seams so they would be extra strong for cat play.  I set the toy on the floor, went upstairs to look for the camera, came back down and saw this:

I had been gone less than 2 min.  Normally my cats are rarely interested in catnip.  apparently, that was not the case today. Here is a pic of the whole thing.  You can see how the whole thing has been licked so much that it's turned green.

Again, this happened in 2 min! Did I mention I keep my cats' claws trimmed?  I must have had some top grade crack-tastic cat nip.
I made another no frills, non-chicken one out of denim scraps and it has held up much much better. Although, you can see in the lower left corner the denim has started to turn green from all the licking.

Anyhow, thanks to flossbox for the idea.  The furry ones at my house have much love for the chickens.

13  cheater apple cup pies in Dessert by Mrsblocko on: March 20, 2008 04:16:06 PM
I was very inspired by c.c.'s tiny pies, (see here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=233346.0) and missing Pushing Daisies something aweful.  I can't make pie crust to save my life.  Luckily I stumbled across this recipe: http://www.pillsbury.com/Recipes/ShowRecipe.aspx?rid=12302   It uses biscuts from a can for the crust. I thought it was weird, but hey anything to avoid the dreaded pie crust!

as you can tell they aren't the most glamorous things to look at, but they turned out mighty tasty.  Surprisingly, I thought they were even better cold the second day.

14  tutu in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Mrsblocko on: March 20, 2008 04:01:49 PM
I've been trying to craft only using things in my stash as funds are low right now.  A few years ago my best friend's grandma passed away.  Her grandma had all this ribbon that my best friend didn't know what to do with.  I also had left over tule ribbon left over from my wedding. Here is what I made with it:

I probably used a total of 5 spools of ribbon.

ps my daughter was pretending to be a fairy princess lion mermaid, hence the face.

15  an old apron in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Mrsblocko on: March 20, 2008 03:54:01 PM
I don't know if this qualifies as vintage, but my mom was cleaning out her attic and came across this apron she made for me probably almost 30 years ago.  It now fits my daughter.  My mom now thinks it's the most ugly thing in the world.  However, my daughter thinks it's the bee's knees.  She wants to wear it everywhere.

I made a jaguar poppet. Pay no attention to the cat rear behind her.

17  yet another poppet in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Mrsblocko on: February 29, 2008 02:31:33 PM
I'm sure everyone is sick of poppets, but here is another one anyway!  I finally got around to finish poppet #3.  I intended to finish by xmas, but Leap day is close enough right?   Wink  She is for my 2.5 y.o. daughter who loves Diego and baby jaguar.  So I made her a mamma jaguar.  She picked out the yarn for the hair.  Please excuse her nekkid-ity.

Here is the back view.  You can't tell but she really has junk in her trunk.  The 2 fabrics i used had different degrees of strechiness.  When I stuffed her, Mrs. Jaguar's bum kept growing and growing.  I don't recommend using 2 different strechy fabrics.  It was not a happy fun time.  Neither was the spotted fabric.  I made the mistake of getting the evil unraveling kind.

I'm still debating if i should do eyelids.  Mine always end up looking so wonky.  I don't know if i should just leave well enough alone.

19  my first and 2nd poppets in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Mrsblocko on: December 17, 2007 07:16:44 AM
Here is my first poppet.  I fixed her neck problem and gave her clothes.  She is un-named as she is a gift to my youngest neice.  Her feet look extra chubby in this photo. It's just the weird angle i was at when i took the picture.

Here is my 2nd poppet.  I finished her this weekend.  I've been calling her Sugar Plum, but who is very in to medieval things so i dressed this poppet in a bodice and chemise.  The bodice is reversable with skull and cross bones fabric on the other side.

Here she is looking winsome

I wish the pictures showed her hair better.  My camera keeps making her color's all wonky.  The yarn is very thick and goes from tan to deep purple to bright blue.  Her eyelids are dark purple as well if that gives you any indication how distorted the colors are in the photo.

20  Orange Stegosaurus in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Mrsblocko on: December 03, 2007 02:03:14 PM
This was the most complicated stuffed animal I've ever made.  It had about a bazillion pieces with all the spikes.  It is going to be a present for a friend's little boy.

I don't know if I over stuffed it, or if it is part of the pattern, but the little dude ended up really bowlegged.

I'm debating if I should tack it down to the body or leave it as is.  Any suggestions?
