11  Hilary Duff's wedding cake in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by rachelbunny on: March 27, 2011 06:47:42 PM
I always thought hers was really unique looking and I finally made it. The roses should be chunkier but they looked odd when I tested it out, so I had to make them smaller. I'm not totally happy with the butterfly either but I had to make it really tiny. Other than that I'm really pleased with the outcome.

13  Flower cake: should i cut piece out or not? in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by rachelbunny on: March 17, 2011 08:44:44 PM
Haven't been posting here in a while. I moved to California in November to attend school and I haven't had time to make clay. I brought all my stuff out here though cause I knew I'd get the itch. I wanted some inspiration so I searched pretty cakes on Flickr and found this one:

It's not finished. After I bake it I'm gonna paint the details more.
There's an off-white color in the bottom tier and I'm debating whether I wanna cut into it or not. I love the dimension of cutting into a piece to show it's complexity. The roses took about 3 days to complete. Smiley

15  Which candy corn is real? whis is fake? in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by rachelbunny on: September 22, 2010 06:35:58 PM
Jk. You can definitely tell the one on the left is real. I made a mold by pushing a real candy corn into a slab of clay, baked it, then mixed the colors, then pressed them into the mold. Probably gonna make my mom some earrings.

ETA. I crossed my mind to run it through the pasta machine 2-3 times to get that graduated color effect and it worked! Now it looks real...

quarter for scale

I mostly just made this for fun but I'm gonna end up giving to my cousin for her 10th birthday in January. I plan on putting the cut out piece on a plate with a fork, and make a tiny tiara from wire and beads and sit it next to the cake. It's gonna be a princess themed setting. Smiley
I'm so proud of the graduated color effect and it was really easy too. I just put two shades next to each other and ran them through the pasta machine a few times. This is my first time making a castle. I molded the shapes and stuck some wire in them then in the cake to hold them in place. I painted the castle after to give it an icing look. Very happy with this.

17  Re: Need some opinons for my castle cake in Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions by rachelbunny on: September 16, 2010 04:00:10 PM
I tried smoothing the edges down but I'll prob file them after baking. I did a swirly heart design on the bottom tier with purple microbead accents, then used green microbeads to border the castle. I can't really do much else to the castle until it's been baked cause I'm gonna paint it.

There needs to be something sitting on the top tier around the castle. Not sure what though??

Okay. I added some graduated roses. I really like how that looks. Then I added a pale shimmery green border around the castle. I made it look like ivy growing in the back.

19  Need some opinons for my castle cake in Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions by rachelbunny on: September 16, 2010 01:53:11 AM

So I've done this gorgeous graduated color effect which I love. I need some advice on a few things...

1. How to I blend those sharp edges on the tier so they don't look so sharp and blunt. I want like a rounded look to them.

2. What should border the golden staircase? I was thinking flowers most definitely but not sure what color or how they would look. Any ideas on that?

3. What should I do with the castle to make it "complete". I think it needs some kind of border or something sitting on that top tier around it. I'm gonna go back in an paint in details like making the 2 front tiers light pink as well.

4. If anyone has any other ideas to make this more esthetically pleasing to the eye they are welcome Grin

Thanks ya'll

20  Bella's birthday cake from New Moon in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by rachelbunny on: August 12, 2010 01:10:41 PM

I was checking out the deleted scenes on New Moon and saw they had a quick shot of Bella's birthday cake. I perked up, found a screen shot, and re-created it. I didn't wanna put the "Bella" on top cause i plan on sending this to my 10 year old cousin for her birthday.
