195  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: Pirate Sam-a-long! on: September 22, 2006 11:20:44 AM
i have a question. im having trouble getting my hook through the stitches and then it gets snagged once i do get it in there. i know its supposed to be tight but...  so my question is would it be better with a wood or plastic hook instead of metal, should i just go up a hook size, or is it supposed to be that tight?

thanks for the help, i love this pattern!!
196  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: Happy Hooker gauge problems on: September 19, 2006 02:06:02 PM
so i tried one with red heart like the book suggests and it worked perfect. i didnt want to use read heart cus its all scratchy.

I use RH most of the time because it's what I can find, so I stared brushing the inside of my hats. A pedicure/manicure brush works great.
You may have to do this everytime your wash it but it only takes two minutes.
I am glad to know that some other people have had the same problems and I will be sure to check out the errors page. I check all the time when I am knitting from the other SNB books but never thought to check for the crochet book Roll Eyes

thanks for the tip! ill try the brushing technique.

I'm having the same problem!!! I started to try for the lacy fingerless gloves, and after trying to fit gauge for like, an hour, I gave up!! I'm working on the fat bottom bag right now, and I just decided to screw gauge and go ahead and try it out...

I don't understand why gauge is such a problem for me!!! I feel better in knowing that I'm not the only one though Wink

Dess: be sure to check the errors page for the fingerless gloves. i had the hardest time with those until i did. that pattern has lots of errors.
197  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: Another PDQ on: September 19, 2006 02:00:46 PM
Nice! So I want to make one of these and I have a giant head... how did you make it bigger?

the too small one i made with all simply soft.  so this time i just used red heart super saver and it seems plenty big enough. i did use the black simply soft for the earflaps and just added an extra row to make them long enough. hope this helps.  my sister has a ton of hair and it fits her.  Grin

i didnt check my gauge on the pdq but the first one i made with caron simply soft came out too small. then i tried one with lambs pride worsted and about halfway through i figured it was even smaller. so i tried one with red heart like the book suggests and it worked perfect. i didnt want to use read heart cus its all scratchy.

disneyfan is right about the errors too. there are lots. almost everything i made i had trouble with until i found the errors page.
