Holiday Family Favorites

Is your turkey drool worthy? Is your pumpkin pie the thing of dreams? What about your ham, is it something the pigs volunteer for? Does the smell of your Snickerdoodles make the neighbors come knocking? Do you have a dish that is something everyone talks about all year? That one special dish you only make during a holiday time? If you answered yes to any of these, then Craftster has just the challenge for you!

Make that one recipe that your family and friends dream of, rave about, or beg for all year. Take pictures of what you made and any in-process steps you'd like to share with us. You must also post a list of ingredients.

12  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Avocado Sundried Tomato Baked Egg rolls on: December 29, 2015 04:04:30 PM
Saw this online and had to make it for my hubby. He loves avocado, and I love him. Smiley

Avocado Sundried Tomato Baked Egg rolls
2 large ripe avocado, diced
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1/2 cup sundried tomato, chopped
2 T. cilantro, chopped
1/2 tsp. salt
2 T. lime juice
Egg Roll wrappers
water to seal wrappers

Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients in a bowl till coated. Place egg roll wrap with corner facing you. Place about 2 T. of mixture.

Fold one corner over, then fold over corners ala envelope style. Using finger to dampen final corner with water, and roll closed (instructions can also be found on any egg roll package). Place in pan and spray both sides with cooking spray of your choice.

Put in oven for 20 minutes on each side. Use sauce of your choice for dipping, put in your face. Smiley
13  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Rolled Hem or Hemmer Foot Help on: December 21, 2015 03:24:59 PM
Trying to make my sewing life easier with a rolled hem or hemmer foot. I've watched loads of YouTube videos, and messed with it till I am crazy. One video shows pressing the hem. Well that is all fine and good, but if I am going to that level I might as well just use a regular foot on the machine. Roll Eyes

Anyone have any tips or magic words to make this thing work?

19  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Painted Coil Bowl on: November 09, 2015 02:02:36 PM
This is a new - to - me twist, on an old favorite. If you check the tag cloud for coil, you will see loads of bowls and other coiled creations. alwaysinmyroom taught a bunch of the mods how to make these addictive projects. Smiley

This one is created using the cotton clothes line and acrylic paints. The colors were just to try out the technique. You can also use inks, and dyes.

The paints cannot be too thick or the needle will break. More than once. Roll Eyes I thinned mine just with water, and that was good. You can also paint after the bowl has been created. Using stencils or whatever you can imagine.

I found the idea on this blog:

Thank you for looking.  Smiley
20  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Zoodles, Sundried Tomatoes & Fish = Good on: August 16, 2015 02:08:23 PM
Couldn't really come up with a better name for this recipe. Still tasty nonetheless Cheesy
Zoodle by Helen, on Flickr

4 zucchini zoodled
1 package of sundried tomatoes
1/2 jar of capers
1 - 2 cloves of minced garlic
1 tsp basil
salt & pepper to taste
2 - 4 boneless skinless fish filet, grilled ( Tilapia is what I used, but you can use what you like)

After grilling fish filet, place zoodles in pan with garlic to warm, tossing lightly. Plate and place fish on top. Now place tomatoes, salt, pepper, basil in pan to warm all ingredients and spoon over fish and zoodles. Serve immediately. So yummy and quick.

Could even use chicken or some other simple protein if you like.

Even zoodle man agrees!
