1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Japanese Paper Dolls on: September 21, 2010 07:40:28 AM

Charming Japanese paper dolls.  Folded from traditional Japanese chiyogami (yuzen) and aizome plus a little cream and black card stock.

Perfect accents for cardmaking.  Lovely as bookmarks. Great gifts.

You can find a tutorial here: http://omiyageblogs.blogspot.com/2010/08/dozen-dollies.html

Please post pictures if you make your own!
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Try a Furoshiki! on: September 17, 2010 01:05:46 PM
Eco-friendly gift wrap?  Adjustable lunch bag?  Convenient carry-all?  You decide!

Have you heard of the Japanese furoshiki?  A cloth used to wrap and carry, well pretty much any and everything, the furoshiki has been around for hundreds of years.  There are dozens of ways to wrap and tie it - both simple and a little more complex.  (See here: http://www.env.go.jp/en/focus/attach/060403-5.html ) Why not try making your own?

You simply need a square of fabric (a fat quarter is the perfect size for a small furoshiki).  Hem or serge the edges.  That's it!  (Easy right?!)

Now have fun tying your furoshiki into all sorts of shapes.

(If you want to make your furoshiki into a shoulder bag.  I'd recommend making one about 100cm x 100cm.)

Have you ever dabbled in the art of furoshiki?
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Pretty Pencils! on: September 17, 2010 12:54:29 PM

Lovely paper wrapped pencils make a great gift... for yourself or someone else.  And they really are simple to make!

I used beautiful Japanese papers in a variety of patterns to make my set. (And some Mod Podge, too!)

Thanks for looking!
4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Postcard books! on: September 17, 2010 12:49:56 PM
Love & collect postcards but not sure what to do with them all?  Why not make a sweet postcard book?

Chipboard, some washi tape, a little ribbon, your postcard (of course) and paper is all you need.  (Oh, and some adhesive, a bone folder - or reasonable alternative, and a hole punch).

I used black pages for this one so it can be used as a photo album:

And white pages for this one as I wanted it to be a sweet recipe book gift:

Hope you like them!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Happy New Kitchen Aprons! on: July 21, 2010 12:52:20 PM
A few aprons I whipped up to celebrate a family member's kitchen renovation.  Nothing says "Happy New Kitchen" like a brand new apron!

This one is made Kokka fabric from their CO-CO-CHI line.  The animals in the damask are glittery and it's so much fun!

The second apron is made from Ikea fabric and trim / buttons from Fabricland.  I'm more than a little in love with it and so glad it's going to a good home!

Finally, a mini version!  Probably my favourite, with its teeny pocket and sweet trim. Perfect for cooking with mummy!

6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Origami Butterflies on: July 21, 2010 12:39:44 PM

A kaleidoscope of origami butterflies in a variety of colours.

Folded from 7.5cm / 3" origami paper.

Wouldn't these make a beautiful installation somewhere in your house?  Or perhaps a garland!
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Glorious in Green, Japanese clutch on: September 06, 2006 10:14:36 PM
I love green and gold together.
I am a purse maniac.
I have an outright addiction to vintage Japanese obis (and a stockpile to match!)

Here is my attempt to tie all these factors together.  What do you think?

Green, white and gold silk obi fabric.  White shell buttons.  Gold obi tie used as strap.
The strap can be tucked in, so this purse can be used as a clutch or a (big) wristlet.
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Assorted Earrings... on: August 22, 2006 10:02:51 PM
I've been beading like a crazy woman for the past few days.  It's an addiction.  I admit it!

Here are a few of the pieces I've been working on.

Moody blues... glass and swarovski

Madeira... lightweight wood beads and freshwater pearls

Feelin' Devilish... chain, glass and swarovski

Autumn Drops... glass and freshwater pearls

This is my first beady post... I've been really impressed by so many projects I've seen here!
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Goldfish love on: August 22, 2006 06:52:44 PM
Summertime in Japan is all about goldfish... so I just had to get in on the action!
These fishy pouches are sewn by hand from Japanese obi, shibori and kimono silks.
From Kumiko Sado's "Omiyage".

Red shibori silk, lined in red kimono silk.

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Shibori silk flowers on: August 22, 2006 06:31:06 PM
Lovingly hand-sewed, these silk flower pouches are sprouting up all over my apartment!

The petals and inner pouch linings are Japanese shibori silk, petal backs are matching kimono silk, and the centres and leaves are cut from obi.

These flowers come from Kumiko Sado's "Omiyage".
Oh... and this is my first project post.  Smiley
