1  Re: Skull Bunnies (added awesome new pictures may 21st) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spookydaddy on: May 21, 2008 04:18:35 PM
ack!!! i meant to upload close up pictures of some of those holiday bunnies but i have been so so busy i forgot.
but at least i have a good excuse! i am so so proud to say the skull bunnies are gonna be published!!! an artshow in st louis is releasing a book that compiles all the pieces int he show and all the stories that go along with them. not only did they want to use one of my skull bunny pictures for the front page of their site www.crammedorganisms.com they even decided to put a skull bunny on the cover!!!!

but now i am in gear making a big batch of 20 bunnies to send all last minute to the show. i had already sent my 4 big fantasy creature pieces but when i saw the bunny on the cover i had to see if they would want some bunnies in the show too.

but enough of that. here are some cool pictures of some of my fancy holiday skull bunnies i have made for various occasions.

Loooove bunny for valentines day of course

a grinning jackolantern bunny for halloween

and ya gotta have a ghost on halloween too!

and even a gingerbread skull bunny!

3  Skull Bunnies (new pictures added may 21st!!) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spookydaddy on: May 13, 2008 08:05:10 PM
I just wanted to show people how far I have come. Some of you remember I used to post a loton this board. Probably fewer of you remember my Skull Bunnies. But for those of you who do these were the very first ones.

Then they changed alot to these.

then i finally settled on these.

and after making like a hundred. no seriously i have made hundreds of Skull Bunnies.
I have streamlined them to all be uniform. No longer lumpy, no longer sometimes mishapen. I think they look great now! And they just look so so cute when there are a bunch of them.

And along the way i've made a bunch of special ones for requests and special holiday themed bunnies. I'll post those too if people want to see em!

Hey guys it has been a while but I wanted to show you all some stupid silly little videos.
I have been making puppets! these videos are all just test shots so don't judge em too harshly.

i made these silly little videos to send to the judges for this years Crafty Bastards along with my application and the 3 pictures it asked for. i just knew i had to show video to do Cousin Loomis justice. i plan on doing all kinds of interviews with crafty friends at the fair with him and make a little spooky daddy special out of it!
oh and tom drew this after he saw the video. he makes me smile.

the top row is teresa of sewing stars, jennifer of cotton monsters, and heidi of my paper crane
middle row- cool old black man who struck up a conversation with me, the crafty bastard himself, and uncle loomis about to rampage on a homie building someone made.

5  giant octopus with tutorial in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spookydaddy on: July 20, 2007 04:48:05 PM
so i haven't posted anything on here in a while, mostly because i have been busy. but also because most of what i have been making is stuff to sell and posting that is a big no no. but here is something i made for my little boy for his first birthday. he is all fleece but the head and tentacles was a lunky lucky find of a furry fleece that had a big dark blue/green to lighter fade. it even had a white strip on the edge that made great white tentacle tips!!

but as a special treat to all you craftsters out there i have been so kind as to do a really rough tutorial
he is actually very simply constructed if you break him down into pieces.

his head is just 4 half a lemon wedge shapes with flat bottoms (think of a beachball. it is made of lemon wedges to create a sphere)

i just sewed the face parts , eyes, mouth, and spots on first.
the tentacles are just long strips that come to a point. one green/blue one for the top and one pink one with circles sen on it.

i alternated light and dark blue circles on the tentacles. then double stitched black X's in the middle of them. that's 5 suckers per tentacle for a total of 40 suckers. that was a whole lot of little circles to cut by hand!
then i sewed each one together with high loft quilt batting behind em and flipped em to look like this

then i sewed each lemon wedge together with a square for the base with 2 tentacles sewn into the bottom seam of each piece. i know it would have helped explain better if i had gotten a picture of this step but hopefully you can figure out what i mean by looking at the finished octopus.
oh and if you have any time before you sew it all together put the head on like a mask and go out on the balcony and take some pictures and hope the neighbors don't see!!lol

but here he is! my little dude loves him and snuggles up to sleep with him at night.

6  Uncle Loomis the 3 foot plush werewolf (chock full of images) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spookydaddy on: June 03, 2007 03:50:52 PM

okay so he's more of a pal than a pet but Uncle Loomis insisted i enter him in this contest.
Uncle Loomis is 3 feet tall with a 6 foot armspan. in a former life he was a faux fur jacket at goodwill and a small pile of fleece.
He loves trees.

he is a great baby sitter

and he even helps me sew!

(now you all know my secret!)
Uncle Loomis doesn't eat meat. He is a vegetarian werewolf. He looooves potatoes but he is a very messy eater so he has to sit in the high chair to eat his meals.

and if he gets too dirty he has to take a bath!
Uncle Loomis is so afraid of water!

but as long as he has his rubber duckie he can make it

so fresh  and clean!
then it is off to go visit some friends
unfortunatly if any of you remember Uncle Loomis lost the truck when he "borrowed" it.

so he had to squish down in the bottom of the stroller.
uncle loomis loves punk rockers

he's best pals with the owner of purple earth comics

and he even knows catwoman!

and after a long long day everyone has a much deserved rest.

oh and my beautiful and talented girlfriend made this the other night

7  cactus family for mother's day (new pic of their loving home added may 26) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spookydaddy on: May 17, 2007 01:50:26 PM
made this for my girlfriend for mother's day. things were real hectic leading up to the big day so i whipped these out while she was visting her mom a few hours away.

sorry bout the crappy pics it was overcast on sunday and i took these when i finished. now they live in my momma's office :-D
she says they like it there.

they're made of a very short dense dark green faux fur( looks almost like carpet). the lines were sewn on with quilt batting behind it and then fleece faces sewn on. the spines are white quilters thread added after they were stitched up. originally they were gonna be sewn into the pot but then after i made them i decided to cut up the bottoms and give them little stubby legs.

this is my girlfriend's office. she says they are always there to make her smile now.

9  Fatty Batty loves candy too much! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spookydaddy on: April 30, 2007 07:09:52 AM

Fatty Batty needs your love! All the other bats are so mean to him cause he can't fly anymore. He loves candy just too too much! Now he is too heavy to fly and he needs you to carry him.

Staying up so late riding high on a sugar rush has given him big black circles around his eyes He is so sleepy he might just fall asleep on the way to the candy store. You did know that's where you are carrying him, right?

Who can resist that gnarly smile? Even if all the sugar has rotted all but 3 of his teeth out.

Batty is made entirely of soft huggy fleece. His body is purple and his wing webbing is lavander. He is completely machine sewn for durability and stuffed with high quaility poly-fil. His wings reach 19 in across and he is just over 6 in tall. And 3 in thick! How plump!
