1  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / Two dress forms up for grabs in BK! on: June 22, 2008 11:02:54 AM
Hello fellow crafters,

Before I offer these up to Craigslist, I thought I'd see if anyone here would like them.

FREE TO A GOOD HOME:

Two dressforms, both in the size twelve range.  Available for pick-up in Crown Heights.

One is an adjustable (I think the smallest size is 39", 32", 40"), the other is a Fabulous Fit form size 12 with narrowed shoulders (the second cover is included so you can add batting or padding to size, but I don't have the original pads that came with it).  The adjustable is pretty lightly used, although it's missing a rubber cap on one of it's legs; the other form is more worn, but has a sturdy base with good casters (it really just needs new elastic on the bottom of the top cover--other than that, a few scratches in the paint on the base, and the narrowed shoulders which you could pad to size, it's in good shape).

I'm moving next weekend: if you'd like one or both, e-mail me at samothracen at yahoo dot com this week to set up a time to pick one or both up.  I'm available any night after 7:30pm except for Tuesday; my fiance may be available during the day next week as well, I'm not sure.  I think the adjustable could be taken on the subway (you can detatch and fold up the base, so you'd just have to deal with carrying the awkward-shaped but very light body).  The base for the Fabulous Fit form is pretty heavy, so I would want a car to take it.

Happy sewing!
2  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / Notions shops (looking for plush elastic)? on: November 23, 2007 07:20:09 PM
I've been using my extensive hoarded fabric stores since I moved to NY, but I now need some 2" plush elastic.  Does anyone have a favorite notions shop? I've been working too much to take a day to wander around the garment district or the Broadway and Canal area to check out the fabric shops.  Does anyone have suggestions or favorites?
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / The rings? Know any good indie jewlers? Sites? on: March 25, 2005 08:53:58 AM
Howdy,
So, uh, I haven't been on the boards a while, but Mr. Monkeyrocker and I are gettin' hitched and I'm shopping for ring ideas.  I'd love to buy our rings from an indie jeweller.  Does anyone have favorite sites? Jeweller's webrings?  Sites with vintage jewellry? Any self-promoters out there?
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / New Sweater from Old Man Sweater on: February 22, 2004 12:36:15 PM
I keep meaning to post some of my projects, but haven't had time to put up pictures.  Here's a sweater top I made this weekend with the help of my slightly altered adjustable assistant:

I just draped and handstitched it as a quick weekend project: no finished edges, not tedious ironing, just a slap dash tailor's tack here and there.  I made it from an acrylic cardigan I got at a thrift store.  You can't really tell from my terrible photo, but those lumps on the right front are actually three red buttons.

Here's a picure of the full front:

and a slightly blurry picture of the full back:
