1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Anybody ever made a hinged bracelet from scratch? on: December 18, 2006 10:56:25 AM
Well...maybe not entirely from scratch.

I have purveyed a couple unfinished wood bangle bracelets and after much rumination, decided that this was the creative route for me.

But, so many questions...

Has anyone every cut one of these in half? What did you use? Was it wobbly? Did you have to brace it with something? Did you have to cut a little extra out on one side to accommodate the hinge?

What kind of hinge did you use? Did you attach a clasp to the other side or was the tension of the hinge enough to hold the bracelet in place? Did you stick to a most round profile on the bracelet, or opt for a more natural oval fit?

See...told ya, LOTS of questions. I'm interested in any & all comments & suggestions!
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Is it doable? Shrinky Dink Physics on: December 01, 2006 04:46:13 PM
I have this great idea to make cuff bracelets and wrap around rings out of shrinky dink plastic...but is it doable?

I really suck at math...so I don't know if I kind find sheets big enough to account for the shrinkage.

Further more, what the heck could I use as a mold? Should I wrap it around something while I'm blasting it with the heat gun, or is there time to wrap it once it's shrunk?

I've never worked with the stuff before. Any advice from those more experienced with the medium would be awesome!
3  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / The little pink box on: October 04, 2006 04:19:02 PM
Here's a chance for all you Etsy users (and other crafters who sell your wares online) to promote your stores while giving to a good cause.

The Little Pink Box was started by a member of my local craft mafia. 50% of the proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen foundation. For details, please go to

4  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / What to do with these cute ceramic hearts??? on: August 17, 2006 03:14:59 PM
I saw these small ceramic hearts in the clearance bin at my favortie craft store and just HAD to have them.

There are just begging to be made into something cool! Ideally I'd like to make jewelry out of them, but I'd probably have to use a soldering iron which means I'd have to have the paramedics on standby.

Here's a pic of similar hearts...

So...any suggestions on what cool thing I can make with these?
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Wire and Bead Animal Tuts on: August 16, 2006 12:24:15 PM
Hopefully I didn't post this in the wrong area!

What I'm looking for is a beginning tutorial for making little bead & sculptures of animals.

I've searching the internet far and wide and haven't been able to find any tutorials for this subject. The stuff I have found usually relates to pony beads and I want to do something more 3-D.

There are sites that sell the finished product or a book...but I just spent big time $$$$ at the bead show (y'all know how that is Wink) so, I'm looking for a sample project first.

I do some wire wrapping, so I've got tons of wire in many gauges laying around the house.

I'd like to try any of the following animals...

scorpion-first choice
spider
dragonfly
gecko

So...if you can point me in the right direction, that'd be awesome. Grin
6  UNITED STATES / North Carolina / Crafting groups in Charlotte / Concord? on: August 15, 2006 08:12:08 PM
Hey guys,

I recently moved to the Concord area from Seattle and I'm dying to meet up with other crafty folks!!!!

I paint, sew, write, draw...but mostly I make beaded jewelry.

Would love to make new friends with any kind of crafters!

I saw that there was a thread for the "Carolina Mafia" but I didn't post there...one of the other message boards I'm on REALLY frowns on reviving old threads!

The name's Kimberly by the way. Wink
