1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / petal-y paper? on: August 29, 2006 05:28:56 PM
so I've searched the forums and can't seem to find what I'm looking for... I'd like to make some paper or even a book with flower petals embedded in the pages. has anyone done anything like this? I've heard of the paper/wedding invitations with flower seeds inside, but I can't find any pictures... are the seeds visible through the paper? also this would be my first paper making project, so go easy on me  Wink
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / everybody wants a pin-up girl... on: August 29, 2006 01:34:38 PM
hey! I bought some great fabric online about a month ago that has vintage-y pin-up girls on it. My intention is to somehow apply (embroider?) one of the images from the fabric to the outside of a blank canvas tote bags, and use the rest to make a lining, hopefully making it reversible. Can anybody give some suggestions about the best way to go about doing this? I don't have a sewing machine yet, but hope to someday.
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / I have a stiffy. on: August 25, 2006 06:37:10 PM
I'm trying to make my first scarf out of red chenille yarn (I think it was Lion Brand) in double stich. I'm about 1/3 done, but the scarf is so stiff! Am I making the stiches too tight? Or if I wash it when I'm done, will it soften up?
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / chess set for my hubby! on: August 23, 2006 01:11:04 PM
ok, so I got a brain wave last night and would like to make my husband a chess set for christmas. here's the ideas:

- a set that sort of represents us, and things from our life, with me as the queen and him as king, our dog as pawns,  etc...

- mini cars, if I do this one I would like to have some sort of mold?

- south park vs. family guy (two of his favorite shows)

does anyone have an idea of what sort of clay/paint would be best? I'd like to be able to use a standard chess board, but if I need to make one a little bigger I'm willing. or anymore ideas? he doesn't really watch sports, but he plays the guitar and video games (his ideal gift would be an xbox 360, but it isn't exactly in our price range  Undecided) and he loves airplanes, he's a hydraulic mechanic for the Air Force and wants to be a pilot someday.

I'd like to find a set to go by as a guide maybe?  I'm willing to put a lot of work into this, I know he'll love it. anything you can add would be helpful!
