Here's the illustration I made and sent to geeyouknit (she got it today):
**edit - i figure it'd be good to explain why i did what i did, and what the song was called -- i went with the butterfly because her song is from an album called "misery is a butterfly", which also explains the dripping. the song was called "pink love" and the lyrics were beautiful. i wanted to express the sadness/isolation of the song while keeping with pink colors and then adding the hearts so it all tied together.**
OK guys - signups are CLOSED! i'll work on matching people up tonight and will try to have them to you by the end of the weekend (i'm going to a wedding tomorrow so that kills my saturday). thanks so much for all of your interest in this fantastic swap!
and for the records, here is some of my work:
that's just a sampling of my illustration style. i also do other things, but this is my favorite. whoever i swap with can have me do a portrait of someone (famous or someone they know) for them, or have me make something up.
aww thanks guys! i've always been an artist, but photography has always been a fun side-project, and now i got a REAL camera (digital - i had a great 35mm one, but i didn't have the time for it) and everywhere i go i find so much inspiration. i love it! here's one of the first pictures i took with this camera when i got it a few months ago:
Here's a photo I took up in Albany last Saturday. The rays spread throughout the entire sky. It was great! The second photo is of a guy's hat at the African American Pride Festival in White Plains in early June. Let me know what you think!
this is a flyer i designed for an upcoming event in Ellenville, NY (thrown by my boyfriend and his uncle). the event is called "The Second Annual Freedom on the Fourth Music and Art Festival". I wanted to get across some sense of freedom but still make it look cool. It's kind of like a mini Woodstock (what Woodstock was SUPPOSED to be, before corporate America ruined it). I'm posting here so people can see my design, but also to promote it in case anyone lives around there and wants to go:
i never ended up getting anything from my partner, but i DID get this BEAUTIFUL necklace a a few weeks ago (RIGHT before i started my new job!!) from gji7. i have NO idea how you made this, but it's fantastic! i've gotten loads of compliments on it so far. is it a transfer of some sort? a coworker of mine said it reminded him of (i forget the proper name) this old kind of art that sailors did on elephant tusks with rubbing ink into engravings. here are the pix:
and the close-up:
thank you SO SO SO much for making something for someone who you weren't paired up with. i REALLY appreciate it!
here are the pictures of what i sent to recyclednew (glad you liked everything!):
and finally, the "poster" which is actually an illustration that i drew for my partner! it was from a pic of me on halloween with a guy that i found dressed up as the white rabbit, and i just HAD to draw it! it's got the lyrics to "white rabbit" by jefferson airplane on the side and all swirled into the image, as well as smokey mushroomy shapes.
there's a bigger version on my website under illustrator portraits if anyone wants to see a little more detail (the printout i sent was 8x10)
