Not the best scan... the colors ended up a bit off.

I'm pretty pleased with it.

2  Re: Tutorial: Pleated tote bag made from vintage fabric. (Picture heavy) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by prettyinpaisley on: February 24, 2011 10:06:45 AM
I made one too!

Great tutorial - though I made a few modifications to include a lining, inside pocket, and only used one strap.

I've never pleated anything until this project. :-)

3  Pleated tote in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by prettyinpaisley on: February 24, 2011 10:03:48 AM
This is my first time making a bag, and also my first time trying to pleat anything.

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I used this fantastic tutorial - with a few modifications.

The strap, and the inside pocket are from some old corduroy pants.

Also, I should mention - I bought this amazing canvas fabric for 50 cents at a thrift store. The bag ended up very durable.

Nicoleburdsall: Your clouds are beautiful! I love your use of rainbows and color!

MadMel I love your concept - how original!

DaniQuee Your drawing skills are fantastic! I especially love the giant squid (He looks a little lonely, and wants to be friends with that girl on the ship - how terrifying!)

Everything looks great. I'm pretty sure I'll be working on my book up until Tuesday morning. I have a little bit of a... plan... for seeing the tour in Seattle.

Here are some of my most recent pages:

The triangles are actually Mirror paper - it didn't scan well.

ANNNND - I tackled the cover! I'm really happy with it.

6  Upcycled men's shirt into Netbook cozy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by prettyinpaisley on: October 18, 2010 03:08:42 PM
My boyfriend has been asking me to make him a cozy for his netbook for months, and I kept putting it off for one reason or another. I finally decided to surprise him!

I rummaged through the pile of old shirts he was going to throw out. He wore this shirt A LOT when we first met and was very reluctant to get rid of it, but it eventually ended up looking REALLY worn - It was missing a few buttons, so I used a different shirt for it's button closure and lining.

After some measuring, very particular cutting, stitching, and inserting a thick foam... I finally ended up with something pretty decent.

I'm really bad about taking "in-process" or "before" pictures - because once I'm inspired I tend to jump right in.

I received from PureOath a while back, and never got around to posting pictures.

I received from Beckashell today.

Here's what I got from them - looks like both partners had a blast collecting things for my boys and girls theme:

From PureOath - an original poem, and LOTS of goodies - Lots of antique images!

From Beckashell: Lots of ribbons, stamped papers, doilies, and cards!

I'm already planning my next pages with all this WONDERFUL stuff! Thank you SO SO much!

StickerChic87, I like the arrangement and pattern choice for your sunbeams! It reminds me a little bit of the stuff Peter Max does.

Noo - I love your layer work - Your dog is so silly!

I got around to making another page.

So, long story short, I took a trip to Las Vegas. Prostitution is legal there (Thanks for corrected info), There are guys on EVERY corner handing out what are essentially business cards, for escorts. I discreetly snagged a TON of them hoping to use them in my book. I cut off the phone numbers, and websites.

This page is about the reasons girls dance at different ages. The page is coated in glitter, (something strippers, and young girls have in common), and I used some shiny pink foil that didn't show up in the picture.

I couldn't resist adding two of my favorite song lyrics about dancing. :-)

Here's my feminine hygiene page. For the background, I used the "directions" from my period products - I especially like the diagrams.

I've realized that I am a very reckless crafter. I got paint EVERYWHERE while making this page. Every page ends up slightly messier than the one before. I need to find a way to make a contained mess.

This is my second spread. It's still not completely finished - but it's as much as I'm going to do tonight. I wasn't sure it was going to fit the "boys and girls" theme, but I think it works.

I was listening to "Do you realize" by the Flaming lips - which has a lot of appropriate quotes for this page. I can't decide between "Do you realize that you have the most beautiful face." Or "...it's just an illusion caused by the world spinning 'round."

Due to my inaccurate measurement, the page on the right is 1/2 an inch shorter than every other page in the book! Oops! Also - you can't see this in the scan, but I totally ripped up my timecard for the background - it felt very liberating.
