1  California / California: North / Rock, Stitch, and Bitch on the penninsula? on: July 01, 2009 03:23:33 PM
Hey all,

Anyone interested in starting a stitchin' group on the peninsula?  I mostly do embroidery, but any kind of stitchin' is welcome.  I live in Redwood City and I am a special education teacher.  Therefore, I have summers off!  Yay!  But, there is only so much soap operas and solo needlework you can take until you could really use someone to chat with about music, politics, books, and any other interesting topics out there!   Wink

If you're interested...let me know!  Thanks!

I recently got the book from a friend of a friend.  I'm VERY new to sewing, but really want to learn more.  I mostly do embroidery.  I live in Redwood City, and I have my own machine.  Plus, I'm a teacher, so I have the summer off...I'm always looking to do more crafty things.  I would be willing to learn more about this idea...
3  California / California: North / Re: Looking to move to N.Cali HELP!? on: June 29, 2009 01:43:01 PM
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and lived in both Oak Park and Forest Park.  While my husband and I loved living so close to Chicago, we really wanted a change.  I found a job teaching, and we moved to Redwood City, CA.  It's about 30 mins. south of SF.  If you're looking for a cool, hip lifestyle, SF is probably going to be your best choice.  The cost of living out here in the Bay Area is pretty expensive all around.  If you don't mind living in the 'burbs and heading into the city for fun, then Redwood City, San Mateo, etc. are all great choices.  I love the climate on the peninsula...definitely a HUGE change from Chicago!   Wink

South San Francisco isn't that bad, neither is Oakland.  It kind of depends on what you guys are looking for in terms of jobs, commuting, and whatnot.  My husband works in Pleasanton and commutes everyday from Redwood City.  Compared to Chicago, the commute is a breeze!  It can get pretty nasty when the there are problems on the bridges, but it's definitely do-able.

Either way, I love living out here and I'm so glad we moved to CA.  There is SO much to do.  If you guys like the outdoors, then you'll love Northern CA.  Plus, if you're into music, SF gets great bands in some super awesome clubs...

Best of luck!

Thanks everyone!  I really appreciate you help!  Smiley

I live in Redwood City, any suggestions for places down this way?  I'm also looking for thrift stores and maybe some good places to meet some crafty folks.  Any suggestions?

Hey Everyone!  I recently moved to the area from Chicago.  I have been a member of Craftster for awhile, but post mostly in the embroidery threads.

Anywho, I hope this isn't a silly question, but does anyone have some recommendations for nifty, thrifty, crafty stores in the Bay Area?  I'm having some difficulty finding neat-o stores in the area.  Thank you for any help you can offer!  I really appreciate!   Smiley

Wow!  Shocked  This is totally awesome!  Great work!  I love the pink on the girl and the guns.  Did you just sew on that rick-rack, also?

cutest. thing. ever!
i wish my kitties were this helpful with my crafting -- they like to try and steal/chew my floss instead!  Grin

*xo...

Ha-Ha!  I know!  They can be so bad when it comes to the floss.  My little ones always like to chew on the metallic floss.  They love that stuff!   Cheesy
