We use inches and yards in the UK - at least we did back then. Now we tend to use a mixture of imperial and metric measurements - fabric is sold by the metre, but we measure our waists in inches.

Apologies for the poor condition of the magazine pages ... but I particularly liked the beachrobe! I've posted versions on Flickr too so that you can read the text, starting here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trashingdays/6015176040/in/photostream

I thought these might be useful for someone making historical costume, or maybe a cute christening outfit!. The full pages with drafting/construction instructions can found at

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Vintage Craft Projects / Re: Japanese Pattern Drafting book from 1967 on: October 03, 2009 01:21:32 PM
I was lucky enough to find it at Oxfam!

The publisher is Kamakura-Shobo Publishing Co. Ltd. Maybe you will find a copy on Ebay or Amazon!

There is a modern Japanese publication called Mrs Stylebook you may be interested in. It is published as a magazine, and the style is very similar. See this entry on ebay:

I love the girl on the bottom right's expression! I guess she doesn't like the outfit ...

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: From the fantastic tutorial... on: August 29, 2009 12:16:56 AM
Lovely job, I have made this too and it is a brilliant tutorial. I've found mine very practical in use too and it's just been through the washing machine and come out looking great.

My machine (an old Janome) didn't complain about the top-stitching, but I did use a nice big needle, a size 100 or 110.
