1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Vintage Craft Projects / Cool-It Clothes - 1970s beachwear from towels and scarves on: August 06, 2011 10:24:10 AM
Apologies for the poor condition of the magazine pages ... but I particularly liked the beachrobe! I've posted versions on Flickr too so that you can read the text, starting here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trashingdays/6015176040/in/photostream

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Vintage Craft Projects / Children's bonnets from 1901 on: July 09, 2011 11:40:50 AM
I thought these might be useful for someone making historical costume, or maybe a cute christening outfit!. The full pages with drafting/construction instructions can found at

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Vintage Craft Projects / Re: Japanese Pattern Drafting book from 1967 on: October 03, 2009 01:21:32 PM
I was lucky enough to find it at Oxfam!

The publisher is Kamakura-Shobo Publishing Co. Ltd. Maybe you will find a copy on Ebay or Amazon!

There is a modern Japanese publication called Mrs Stylebook you may be interested in. It is published as a magazine, and the style is very similar. See this entry on ebay:

I love the girl on the bottom right's expression! I guess she doesn't like the outfit ...

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: From the fantastic tutorial... on: August 29, 2009 12:16:56 AM
Lovely job, I have made this too and it is a brilliant tutorial. I've found mine very practical in use too and it's just been through the washing machine and come out looking great.

My machine (an old Janome) didn't complain about the top-stitching, but I did use a nice big needle, a size 100 or 110.
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: skirts and seam-rippers...my 2 joys this summer on: August 09, 2009 01:43:01 AM
Love the idea of using a tablecloth. Was it a linen one? I used to wear bubble skirts when they were fashionable back in the 80's, that was long before I learned to sew though.

The little black number is very cute, it's nice to see the high waistbands back, they are so much more flattering than the falling-off-the-hips look.

We're not having the heat problems here in England - max 20C forecast for my region this week - I'm seriously thinking of starting my winter sewing!

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Bathtub Pincushion on: July 18, 2009 12:44:09 PM
He he - when I read the title, I thought "why would you need a pincushion in the bathtub?". That would be a very keen crafter!

It's cute.

Tutorial is here:

I have been using it for the last week and it is very practical.
