9521  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Cargo Pants Purse (image Heavey) on: August 09, 2006 12:55:09 PM
This all started with a trip to the thrift store.(doesn't it always?) My mom bought this pair of camo cargo shorts and was going to give them to my younger brother. My brother doesn't wear shorts so I got the pants. Which didn't fit me either, much to my dismay. But I was determined to use the shorts somehow.
So I mde a purse out of them:
This is the front: (one of my nosey ferrets got in the picture.)

That's right I even lined it!!! The strap is made out of a ribbon belt I never wore. The whole project cost me nothing becasue I didn't buy the pants, the belt was given to me and the clasp (a frog closure) was a part of a costume for my brother.

The purse is made out of the cargo pockets and butt pockets. And a bit of extra from the bottom of the legs was used for the sides, bottom, and top. It's really sturdy. The lining is cotton from the remnants bin but I didn't even pay for that my grandma gave it to me. lol.

I'm very pleased with my work. 90% sewing machine 10% hand sewn.

I love this project. Hi girl! You got me addictied to craftser. Smiley I am enlisting john to help me with this. And we're making one. Mom offered me hers since it's adjustable but duct tape is much cooler.

I'm curiuos how the binding part works. Because I'd like to make my siister one of these for her birthday. But I can't seem to figure out the binding part. Do you just wrap the tthread around the "button hole?" or is there a specific way to do it?
I'm heading to the thrift store tommarrow to get a old record cover for the progect but her party is sunday. lol nothing like waiting till the last minute.
