11  Craft along for ME- ongoing in Craftalongs by Eliea on: December 11, 2010 08:34:02 PM
The whole idea of this craft along is for those of us who constantly craft for others but, have a list of things we want to make for ourselves and never get to them!
If you are like that then this craft along is for you! Any craft, any medium, Just make yourself something!

I'm hoping by making a craft-a-long it will give us reasons to actually finish our projects, and give each other encouragement and help when we need opinions.

____________________________

My project for me right now is a lacy and pretty hat and scarf that will go with my bulky orange winter jacket. I am working on this pattern:

For the scarf. Haven't decided on the hat yet.

12  AWESOME Cheese Sauce Tutorial in Recipes and Cooking Tips by Eliea on: December 02, 2010 05:53:12 PM
I have been wanting to make another tut for awhile now. Tonight we were making nacho's and I thought DUH! We make our own cheese sauce and get lots of happy people when we make it for guests. So I am sharing it for all of you to make happy family and friends!

Ingredients:
1/4 Stick of butter
1/6th cup of flour (half of a 1/3)
1 cup milk (we use 2% or vitamin D)
1 cup of cheese (Read tut before measuring out)
Paprika and red and black pepper to taste

I also strongly recommend a nylon whisk and non stick pan. This stuff will stick and become like glue when it cools. The nylon whisk is flexible enough to get in all the crevices of the pan, and mix well  without scratching the pan. We got ours at Target for less than 5.00 and use it ALL the time.

Melt Butter in pan on medium heat,

Add Flour and salt and whisk together till smooth:

Remove from heat and add milk then return to heat, (if you do not remove from heat it can scorch in the time it takes to measure milk and add it.)

Stir Constantly till well blended, slightly thickened, and when you stop stirring it starts to bubble. It will be steaming hot.
Here's how you can tell it's thickening properly. the edge of the pan will crust a little and the milk will stick a little:

Add cheese, Do not pack the cheese to measure it (I measured in the same glass that I measured my milk in thus the white specks).

Stir till cheese has melted.

(Yum cheese! I love watching it melt and get stringy.)
We've found this to be the best cheese for flavor as it's mildly seasoned:

But as long as the bag says this:

you are fine.  remove from heat, add seasoning:

 first red and black pepper:

And Paprika:

 and stir in.

Turn burner on low, Serve and enjoy!

I highly recommend you rinse your pan, and soak it before washing. It helps so much(even on nonstick pans)!
Let me know what you think and if you have any questions!

Hello! I'm a Housewife of 4 years and we have 6, 4 legged, children. They are 1 giant yellow dog, 1 small shepherd mix, 3 crazy cats, and 1 silly ferret. The ferret is caged for her own safety. The dogs are in the craft room but in a kennel and all craft items are kept in plastic or out of reach. Cat hair is pretty common but I am totally willing to wash/lint roll, and items you claim. We do not smoke.

19  Evil Morbid Unicorn in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Eliea on: September 28, 2010 12:19:00 PM
So this is the second of these I've made and probably my last. It was a commission and I actually really like the unicorn part. I had the perfect yarn for the request and only had to buy yarn for the horn. (also perfect color in my opinion)
The request was as much as possible in black/red to make him look evil.
I think I did pretty well. I honestly think I like this one better as I knew what I was doing a bit better. lol

Used a wide range of techniques on this guy, I crocheted the bear with thread, the unicorn double stranded worsted, the mane and tail were attached and then unraveled for a more whimsical look. The bear's face is painted and so is the unicorn's eyes, which are felt that are painted then glued on. His hooves are glued as well.
His legs and horn have plastic drinking straws in them to add support. And he has steel bb's in his rear to counter weight him. WHEW! That's a lot!

And the one he's based off (which is knit I should add):

20  Mermaid Skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Eliea on: September 27, 2010 02:35:15 PM
This skirt was made from some fabric from my stash. I'd bought 1 yard and it was one of the most expensive fabrics I've purchased. But I loved it so much I had to have it. I'd been struggling with what to do with it. I then thought "DUH, easy elastic waist skirt." So that's what I did. And it came out the perfect length. Clearly I'd been over thinking the whole thing.

I love it but I think I'm going to add pockets as I am lost without them to take my iPod and cell phone into the store. (Please disregard the state my sewing nook's floor is in.)
It's not a bubble skirt though it sort of looks like it in a few pictures. It's just been washed and not ironed. lol
