1  The Musical Magnetical Shrug in CHALLENGE 5 ENTRIES by fizzysister on: August 24, 2005 11:18:38 AM
So I thought of all the useful things I could knit out of casette tapes but decided I'd far rather have a totally impractical item of clothing. Inspired by the many shrugs and minisweaters I've seen on Craftster (and because I didn't have time to knit anything bigger!) I knitted this....

I used various tapes that I'd recorded on so much they weren't listenable any more, and 4mm needles.

And I used two of the spools from inside the tape as a button (one of the little ones pushed into the hole in the middle of the big one) This is the best picture I could get to show you what I mean.

The tape was a bugger to work with, it just wouldn't stop breaking and it sort of stuck to itself so the stitches wouldn't pull through. And i only did a swatch with one of the tapes I used, and it turned out the other tapes all had different gauges. But the fabric itself is beautiful! It's so light and sparkly  Cheesy (But it does itch like hell to wear)  It's garter stitch through out as that gave the best texture.

The pictures don't really do it justice.

And one more pic of my garden wearing it. I really like the colours, very 70s and autumnal all in one!

I had such fun making this, it was a great challenge!  Cheesy

2  Marshmallow box in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by fizzysister on: June 21, 2004 06:14:02 AM
I got this old jewellery box in a charity shop for 1 but it was all grubby, so I decided to pretty-fy it with some fantastic marshmallow wrapping paper. It came out a bit lumpy but now I can't look at it without getting a marshmallow craving!

3  Poker coasters in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by fizzysister on: June 21, 2004 06:00:38 AM
My boyfriend made himself a poker table and needed something to protect it from drinks, so I made him some poker coasters.
For each one I stuck two playing cards to a sheet of card, then drew around a coaster and cut out the circle. I put clear sticky back plastic (contact paper if you're american, i think) on top and stuck some black felt on the bottoms so they don't slip.
I hope you like them Smiley

5  Newton's Cradle in Completed Projects by fizzysister on: June 16, 2004 01:25:41 PM
I didn't make this myself, it was a birthday present from my boyfriend, he made me a Newton's Cradle. I really love it, it doesn't work quite right, but it does some fun things. Well, fun to me, I'm a physicist! Wink

6  My first sock monkey (and my first post!) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by fizzysister on: June 10, 2004 09:13:06 AM
Hi everyone, I've been lurking here soaking in the craftiness and getting lots of inspiration so I thought I'd share my first ever sock monkey with you. I'd never even heard of sock monkeys til looking on craftster.
I'm in my uni's Astronomical Society, known as Astrosoc, so when I heard of sock monkeys, the logical thing to do was make an Astrosoc(k) monkey! Wink
Here he is sitting on my knee

He has a tshirt just like the human members of the society, with his name on the back

So, I hope you like him, and thankyou everyone for inspiring me! I've got loads more craftster inspired projects battling for my attention  Grin
