51  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Pop art inspired high waisted skirt on: May 12, 2009 09:24:18 AM
i love it. it's so creative. i've just bought 15metres of plain white cotton to dye and stuff, but wasn't sure how fabric paint would look. Now i know it can look great I want to give it a go!

Thanks for the comments. I used a new look pattern 6774.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about dying it... did you tie the small circles, dye blue, untie, tie the large ones, dye pink?

exactly like that! I used marbles for the small cirles and a machine dye, it was soooo noisy in the washing machine! I'll find something softer next time

I also really like the different patterns on the bust.

I was experimenting with different patterns on the lining and main fabric and actually decided that I liked the stripe better and was going to use that as the main. Then I sewed it together the wrong way round, so the mis-match is a happy accident.

It's tie-dye, anything goes! I'm going to make another but with a batik design

Here is my latest project. I actually used a pattern which is unusual for me. I cut the pieces before i dyed it and the edges frayed a bit and needed trimming so I had to make a few adjustments.

I also forgot to cut the waist band and by the time I realised it was to late to dye it to match. Anyway, orange just popped into my head and I found a scrap of cotton big enough for the pieces.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out. What do you think?

a closer shot

thanks for all the great feedback. i adapted the pattern from a tutorial on here for the square bottom bag, it might have been the jordy bag, it didn't have a flap in the tut. thanks for your comments on my embroidery, it took me forever to remember how to do chain stitch Wink. I'm now waiting for inspiration for more bags. it's my new obsession.  Smiley

Hey everyone. this is my latest bag and i'm really pleased with it. it was pretty easy to sew the bag but the applique and chain stitch lettering took forever. What do you think?

And here is the interior
