Thanks Muria. I think that helps. The last one you posted, it looks like the straps may just form the bow in the back (maybe with some sort of loop). I'm thinking maybe I could just attach them permanently and add some elastic.

I fell in LOVE with this sun suit pattern. I found 2 similar versions, 1 is from Australian Home Journal from 1955

And the other is a vintage Simplicity pattern.

I know that a lot of times you can find the patterns online in archives, but I'm not able to locate them anywhere. Does anyone happen to know where I can find them or something similar? Or even just how to do the straps like in the Simplicity pattern? It doesn't look like they use buttons, so how would they be attached??

Emeraldcutie - my daughter has one that's a little too big for her and that's how she wears it, criss crossed and tied in a bow in the back!

I lucked out, this pattern is up to size 12 girls, I think.
